I am currently installing a coolant temperature gauge and would like to know if it would be prudent to splice into the ECU coolant temperture sensor wire in the harness, rather then installing a second sensor. This is the way that I am leaning right now, but am wondering if it is similar to the stock boost gauge in that it just gives you a basic "estimation" of the actual information in which it is giving you. Any help would be really appreciated...

An aftermarket gauge reads a lot faster and more accurate. That is the point of buying it. You can wire it into the stock one but I wouldn't recommend it. Just drain enough of your coolant to be able to remove one of them, replace it with the aftermarket one, and then you will see the difference between the stock and aftermarket one. If your car is functioning properly, the aftermarket gauge should never remain still, it should fluctuate. It will read up to a certain temp, then when the thermostat opens you will see the needle drop as cooler coolant passes by it. Unlike the stock one that just sits there and doesn't move until its getting really hot.
