Completely new to all this I have a pioneer cd player, and was gonna be getting an amp ( jl audio 1000 watts) to power my premier pro competition sub. I payed $100 for the sub + box which sells for over $350 but I've never wired up a system. any tips/tricks to keep it cheap?

Also as far as a box goes the one it came with wont fit in my hatch so I'm gonna need a new method of fitting the sub in the hatch. Any ideas? Fiberglassing?

Can i just make a board with a hole and get it mounted with the top of the sub aiming at the glass? Or will it need to be a more airtight spot?

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

well i have a jl audio set up too i just made a box and fired it toward the glass wood about 20 bucks. fire the sub toward the rear or the glass i did that like the sound. fiberglass you can try it gets messy and time consuming just make a smalller box.

make sure the xover is set for low pass, and not set so high.

use the non fade separate sub woofer output on your deck IF you have one ;)

dont do no ghetto tapping the rear speaker stuff unless that is your last resort.

as for boxes, i never got into making my own. ive always been satisfied with premade ones as long as the cubic ft was to spec for my sub. good luck

its not that hard to wire everything
and i made my own box for under $30 dollars looks exactly like the one posted on ebay but i made it with 2 subs

Any chance you'll be making a write up for the box?

That's a sick setup.

I'm running a single Memphis 10 in a sealed box with Alpine 160 watts. Has enough bass to make all 3 mirrors useless and I can still use my hatch area. The key is the right parts and wiring it correctly. Do alot of research before you start, you'll be glad you did.

Actually thinking about fabbing something up.

Im getting a new interior, and since the back seats are useless I was thinking of mounting a sub through the backseat with the front right in the middle of the drivers side back seat.

I'm 6,3 and nobody can sit there anyway

thats sweet, I wanna do something similar but plan on keeping my back seats. Send me a pm when u get the writeup done.

Cheap boxes would be perfect if you are trying to save money. Try "securing" them with those stretchy tie down straps they sell at autozone. I got a bucket of em for 20$ assorted colors and sizes. They come with hooks on the end so you can just link em on anything solid and the box will stay in place.

As for custom boxing it, fiberglass would be the most time consuming and expensive option. A simple MDF enclosure would be a fun project, but it is cheaper just to buy premade. I personally always make my own boxes and can help if you have any questions. Just make sure you make the box big enough or the sub will sound horrible.

Glassing is worth it, but I don't recommend it unless you've got someone to teach you how to do it.

This was before I started on my false floor, dynamatted, and put my 4 channel in.

If you do it right, you can only lose about 3" of trunk height.

Thanks man.

Yep. ADR GT Sport. I only have 3 now since I broke one and haven't been able to find a replacement.

I did something similar to got no sol on an 88 mustang hatch back. Mine was almost completely flush with the floor pan then a double laminated 3/4" birch top and fiberglass bottom in the spare tire well. Then I made a 3/8" floor for the hatch area with a 16" hole around the sub, put chicken wire over the hole, and carpeted the hole floor. When complete you couldn't even tell there was a sub there and could use every bit of space in the hatch area. I was able to hit 134db with the 1 eclipse 86 series aluminum cone 15 and a MTX 750xd amp.

That car got broken into one night and everything else was stolen except for the amps and the sub.

That's why I do a sparewell enclosure on every car I own that I put a system in. That and a false face for your radio do wonders.

What they don't know exists, they can't steal.
