420A Will the speedo work with an Auto PCM in manual car?

First off sorry if there’s other threads like this but I haven’t been able to find my exact question but as the title states I have a 95 Eclipse 420a with a 5 speed and the speedo doesn’t work, it’s throwing a p1698 code and from what I’ve read it means the PCM has been replaced with an auto. So basically my question is will the PCM cause the speedo not to work?

I’ve checked the gear on the VSS and it’s still there, the previous owner swapped the cluster so that’s a 50/50 on that but everything works besides that he speedo and car runs great.

It should work. My 95 talon Esi has an auto ecu and my speedo works just fine.

The car doesn't know the difference. The ECU shouldn't affect the function of the cluster.
