Speaking as a freelancer who does carbon fiber.. its one thing to want it.. but is the demand there for me to spend many many hrs making a quality plug, and then make a quality part.. i think 386 made those, and made them awfully if im not mistaken.. Like some one said it would just be a lip piece that would be 3m adhesive'd on..

not to mention a design that many would be interested in.. I do alot of 1 off parts, but those people who buy my 1 off parts pay for them.. Quality isnt cheap.. i take pride in engineering my parts to fit, and install like factory, so the customer can have a plug and play product.. nothing like spending 300+ on something you have to modify when it gets to you right.. LOL

theres alot more that goes into a quality part that lasts then just laying some resin LOL..

To make tha add-on better, it would need another layer or 2 of CF, adding weight, and of course cost.. typically, a 12" by 12" part with curves from start to finish ( making a master, perfecting it, making a mold, etc ) is about 900$ in materials and time.. thats why we havent stepped up.. LOL...its a kool part, but it already has a bad rep, so id be lucky to sell any and even break even..

so for anyone really wanting one, we can make them, they wont be cheap, they will be quality, but again, they will be an add-on part like this one was..there's just no way to do it without doin the whole bumper, and lets face it, this industry is already hit hard by the shit economy, so making a full rear in CF with the diffuser built in, is just well not feasible..

i will look into it tho, ill grab a junk bumper and see if i cant make something.. id like to make an CF insert with holes to reduce drag , since we do have alot of that with that rear LOL. which would also make it functional... so if any one has ideas or wants something made.. hit us up.

A diffuser is nothing more than a decoration if it doesn't have an undertray extending at least part of the way of the car from it. Maybe what gixxerdrew is noticing is the reduced drag from having the "diffuser" installed since an Eclipse rear bumper is essentially a big parachute.

When a diffuser is properly used, the air flows into the underbody from the front and sides of the car, accelerates and reduces pressure. There is a suction peak at the transition of the flat bottom and diffuser. The diffuser then eases this high velocity air back to normal velocity and also helps fill in the area behind the car making the whole underbody a more efficient downforce producing device by reducing drag on the car and increasing downforce.

The aim of the diffuser is two fold, it works like a wing curving up and creating negative pressure under the rear of the car and hence downforce, the second action it fulfils and related to the first is that the low pressure it creates actively pulls air form under the car, this scavenging both produces a lower pressure area under the car and also acts to reduce the boundary layer. A boundary layer is the result of the air molecules next to cars body are actually stick to the car, they travel at the same speed as the car and not the same high speed as the air and ground passing next to the car. This layer builds along the long flat or curved surfaces of the cars bodywork. They create friction and disrupt the airflow around the car. The uneven underbody and the static air would literally choke the underbody, effectively stopping the airflow under the car and reducing downforce.

Why does it have to be carbon fiber? Why not plastic? or why not just paint it on?

My cars paint job is awful so I just got some black and did it to my 2ga bumper. Yeah it doesn't look as good but from a distance it looks ok, and ill have the paint shop do it properly when it comes time to paint the whole car.

I just wasted my time clicking on this thread thinking there was finally actually going to be a thread about a 2g diffuser. Not this stupid bumper cover overlay again...

A: only ricers paint things black to look like carbon fiber.. imo thats lame.. this post is about the CF attachment, not , how can i get that look..

and 2
. did you waste your time reading this post, or did you waste your time thinking you Actually NEED a diffuser.. LOL

i think theres only a few ppl on this board who would actually benefit (performance) wise from a real diffuser..this attachment is purely aesthetic..

If more of us NEEDED a real diffuser, one would have been made long ago..

A: It’s not meant to look like carbon fiber, it’s meant to break up the back bumper and give it something different, look at 90% of all cars that have this they are PLASTIC.

And B not 2: This is not a diffuser in any way, it’s for looks, a carbon fiber diffuser would make sense, but a bumper cover made of carbon fiber? why pay that much when you can do the same thing cheaper.

If you think having it black is rice then why isnt a carbon fiber bumper cover not rice???WTF

Its about looks which I think makes the back bumper look more modern, I just dont want to spend $200-300 on doing it.

386 Customs disappeared over night a little while back, they owe people product/money. They were the only ones who made it.

Yeah I got burned by them. I gave them half of the payment ($90.00) and they finally refunded me $75.00 of the $90.00 and never heard from them again.

I totally agree with you here, I've painted my rear bumper to reflect this more modern look...
If it is in fact a "ricer" thing to do, then why are more and more newer cars coming from the factory with this astetic upgrade, i.e. 2010 WRX / STi, 2011 ford fiesta, 2nd gen pontiac vibe, 3rd gen jeep grand cherokee srt8, and even the 2nd & 3rd gen toyota prius has an actual matte black plastic rear lip and that's the most noticable. I guess all those are ricer cars too? All it is, is a growing trend in automotive design to update the outdated hardware to look newer. Face it, aside from newer materials, electronic components, and some redesigning of certain machanical parts, cars haven't changed a whole hell of a lot in the past 100+ years they've been around, it's all for a fresh look in the sea of mundane car designs (trust me here, I've always wanted to be a car designer). It simply gives that cleaner agressive type look to our cars, which adds new life to our 12-16 year old beautiful 2g DSMs. If you want the look without the price, just paint your bumpers and save your money :dsm: :hellyeah:

For me it's not performance. Eclipse has way to big of a butt. It just needs some contrast. Look at my avatar.
This company made it but I guess it didn't go will so I don't see it no more in their store.
eclipse items - Get great deals on Carbon Fiber Parts items on eBay Stores!

i also saw they had one for sale i was gonna pick one up. im gonna ask the company if they would make it again

I looked for them on ebay the other day and found nothing, I have no idea how i missed your thread.

Seems like all they do is wrap.

They do, but im just curious to a lip, or cover where they have nothing to wrap, im assuming they make a mold and use fiberglass?
