Anyone know of a place that sells a CF bumper shield to go above the exhaust tip for a 95 eclipse rear bumper? I am sick of cleanning the soot every week. Here is a pic of what I am talking about...it is on an EVO though :( . Thanks!

first as swade said fix your problem with running rich, second: if you like the part and want one anyway just for looks sorry to say but it doesn't exist.. i've been trying to find one for a 1g as well. i've come to the conclusion of just getting one custom made. i'm going to call carbon creations and a few other companys even to see if it's possible and if i can get it done i'm sure i can make a post for a vote to see if they'd sell i'm sure if enough people would want them they'd start making them. :thumb:

The problem is that I had to cut the old flange off the catback to weld a new 3" flange on it so my cat-delete DP would bolt up. Since I removed about 2" of material, my exhaust now sits tucked under the bumper, therefore making more of a mess than usual.

Well damn it!! since no one has one, looks like I'm going to have to find some one that does CF.

Since it's a smaller piece, you could try doing it yourself. I've never done any carbonfiber work myself, but I will assume its similar to fiberglassing something. You could probably pick up a small piece of the carbonfiber fabric pretty cheap, some resin, and a litte time.

Just a thought. . .

This would be a great first CF laying project because it is going to be in a place where it won't get a lot of scrutiny. I think the hardest part will be making the mold.

just get some carbon fiber and do it yourself. thats not a difficult area to do it on. its not that hard of a proccess anyways..

So take your exhaust to a shop and have them fix it.

Really there is no point in cutting off the flange, adding 2" of pipe, and rewelding the flange, kinda overkill in my opinion. Whereas I could spend about the same on this, and have a nice looking piece as well. Plus the majority of shops can't tig weld, so I think I am good.

Sorry for the thread dig guys, but like they say, its better than starting a new one...

This summer I had my car completely repainted factory color Northstar white, and also had the Blitz kit removed in favor of stock/OEM 2gb body parts. The car looks great, and I'm really happy with it. However, my Apexi N1 was set too far back, and the exhaust tip was touching the rear bumper. In just the few test drives the body shop guys did, the rear bumper (obviously) started to heat up and yellow the fresh paint. It was barely anything, but enough to annoy me. Anyways, as soon as the car was done, I drove it right home, and didn't drive it again until I could fix it (to prevent it from yellowing any further, of course). The reason the exhaust was set too far back is because the test pipe I was using (between the stock downpipe and cat-back exhaust) was too short. So after I got it home, I didn't drive it at all until I could fix it. I "fixed" it by installing a Road/Race downpipe (cat delete) to replace my stock dp and too short test pipe. The addition of the RRE downpipe pushed the exhaust tip back, but it still wasn't low enough. So I also replaced the last rubber exhaust hanger (the last hanger holding up the N1 muffler) with one that allowed the exhaust tip to hang even lower. After all this, the exhaust tip is much better... it dropped about 1.5" and back 3". That said, I've still been keeping tabs on my rear bumper to see how its doing... does it get hot? yellow even more? etc. Well, it turns out that my adjustments are not enough. Its getting worse... and its really frusterating when its brand new paint! I checked how hot the bumper is getting, and its not that bad at all... I wouldn't even call it "hot", more like "warm". Apparently though its still enough to do damage. I'm guessing its because the paint and clear coat are still fresh/delicate.

Now, all that brings me to my question... does anybody know where I can buy a carbon fiber exhaust/bumper heat shield? If this thread is any indication, I'm guessing I'm out of luck. If thats the case, does anyone know where I can get one made? Thanks in advance guys...

Did you get a chance to take some pictures yet?

I am having one made for my 97 rear now. Custom Airwerks in Lancaster, Pa is really good with the carbon stuff. I have seen the one they made for this WRX along with all the other carbon pieces they have made and it is nice. They pop riveted it on. I will post pics when I get it. If there is a ton of interest maybe we could get a deal on getting a few presold and asking for a discount. Let me know!

Needless to say, I'm interested.

Definitely post up pictures, price, and any other info asap! :thumb:

edit: a quick google search of "Custom Airwerks", and it looks like they do some nice work. I couldn't find an official site, but a couple of their customer's cars looked very well put together.

I'm curious if the best way to make this would be to build a small box around that area on our car, and then use expansion foam to make a female mold. You could then reverse the mold b y lining the inside with plastic and then once again filling with expansion foam and removing. The final piece would be a replica of the are around the exhaust cut out, so you could basically just lay the fiber cloth over that and then coat with epoxy resin. I'm unaware of a way to make this correctly otherwise due to the massive curvature of the bumper in that area.

I'm going to be working with a local shop that does quite a bit of carbon fiber work here in the next month or so to create one. I'll definately post pictures after and let everyone know how or if they'll be availiable. :talon:
