will pistons with dings in them hurt anything?

Is it ok to use pistons with dents in them from the valves hitting them? I have forged pistons with dings in them after the timing belt jumped 4 teeth. Thanks, Austin

I wouldnt trust them, could of fractured them. If you did use them you would have to grind down the dents make sure there are no places a hot spot could form
 
I wouldn't advise it but I'm sure others have done it. My stock pistons have the famous dents in them as we speak. It worries the crap out of me all the time but I need this car to run on a daily basis so I had to do it. If you can afford to I would replace them. Even if they are ok you'll always worry about them and if they aren't ok you'll do serious damage to the rest of the engine when they let go.
 
Are you confusing the stock, machined-in valve reliefs with valve denting? Smooth them off so there are no sharp edges, do not get grit between the pistons and the cylinder walls.

Post a picture of the extent of your denting.
 
I have a few dings in my pistons but that is alot of dings! Are you sure it wasn't a bolt in the cc or a dropped valve because some of those marks seem out of place from where they should or would be if timing slipped for a sec and you killed the motor. I wouldn't trust those pistons they look pretty beat to me and stockers are very cheap. Are your cylinder walls untouched?
 
You may have your own Press - Personally if I'm gonna pay to have the Wrist Pins pressed out I would pass on that particular Piston & have a better Piston pressed on the old Rods, assuming the Rods are'nt Bent of course - That Piston is kinda more DENTED than Dinged - & how hard that Outer Diameter of the upper Piston edge was cleaned & possibly rounded off kinda concerns me too - I'm not saying it's BAD, just that IMO it's not good enough to warrant paying to have that one pressed back on a good Rod.
 
Dude mine were worse than that. I drove on mine for like 3 months and that cylinder finaly lost compression. I bought a new piston and pulled the rod out and took it to a machine shop and had it pressed in slap it back in the car and im still on the rod with perfect compression.
