Okay so i spent some time researching, no answers at all. I posted a similar topic a couple days ago, and no answers besides 1 guy, but i need a couple more opinions and I kind of need to know an answer soon, because i have to decide what i'm doing with my car.
I have a 95 gst with a built 7 bolt in it, my shell is junk so i have someone to buy a 90 gst shell with tranny and ecu from. MY QUESTION will my 7 bolt fit right up in the 90 gst? the one guy who replied to my other thread said no due to a motor mount placement?
IDK, i'm just looking for answers, please help.

i am about 90% sure you can. i went from a 7 bolt to a 6 bolt no problems at all, there are only a few MINOR differences between the 2, 6 bolts were from 90-92 mainly and 7 bolts were from 93-94 in the first gens, and of course you need different flywheel's because one is 7 bolt and 1 is 6 bolt but the main difference is the rod's , and the 7 bolts are "saposedly" more prone to crank walk. i didnt have to change ANY of my motor mounts, it dropped right in and had no problems with anything except i had to buy a new flywheel.

thats only 1g motors. you cant put a 7 bolt 2G motor in a 1g he would be right i believe but if its a 1G 7 bolt motor it will work fine.

Concerning the 2G engine, the guy who mentioned the "motor mount placement" is correct as far as direct drop-ins go.

As we all know, each car has 4 mounts in the engine bay. The 1G has 3 of the 4 bolting directly to the engine block and only one to the transmission. The 2G is the exact opposite having 3 of the 4 bolting directly to the transmission and only one to the engine block.

What that means is the 2G engine block does not have the provisions to bolt up one of the engine mounts (front) that are used in a 1G. So you realize at a very early stage in this idea (i.e., before any other issues are considered) that without custom mounts it doesn't "fit"/bolt in completely.

Ya, thanx for the tip as well for one of my co-workers also has a 96 GST who lost his car in a broadside collision towards the rear and wants to sell the motor to his friend who has a 1g with a blown motor.

I knew that the two motors had differences but couldn't remember. Now I can tell him that the mounting issue would be a problem.

I'm running a newer block in my race car, it's actually a 4G64 but no other difference, I just run without a front engine mount and a solid rear mount, works ok for the race car but maybe not for street, don't know
