will a 2.5 exhaust be fine or 3 in exhaust be better?

i am going to get my exhaust done this week and i need to know if i should get a 2.5 in or 3 in exhaust. i want a 3in stainless but the its kinda pricey. i am looking at 2.5 aluminized right now. bad choice or should i just save my money and get the 3in stainless. i need some advice. oh, i have 1g fwd too. i wanted an apexi but they do not make one for my car.

i dont mind the sound effect. as a matter of fact, i am going to go with the turbo xs type rfl bov just because they say its the loudest one on the market.i really dont mind about the noise. i just want performance. the more the better and i want to keep my car daily driven right now. maybe different in the future but i just want a 12 second daily driver right now. and keep in mind that i am just getting started. there is plenty more to come.

My 98 GSX's stock piping runs under the axle. I thing all GSXs have this route in their stock exhausts.

When I bought my exhaust (VRS 2.5 inch) for my laser I used to have it went over the axle, stock I dunno never looked i replaced the exhaust within days of buying the car
Of course I did have a FWD.

I plan on getting a 3 inch system for my 1G. Simply because while right now I dont have plans for making enough horsepower that it will need it but you never know. Im going with a VRS system again they sound nice and the price is just right, 420 for 3 inch aluminized catback system. They use magnaflow mufflers which have always served me well on every car Ive owned including my 2 240sx muffler slugs.

Small Turbo like 13b & 14b go with 2.5
Moving onto bigger turbo's like a 16g with the bigger injectors,fuel pump you should defnitally go with 3in exhaust.
