I just bought a 97 eclipse spyder GS-T the transmission casing is chewed thru cuz a bearing went out and let the gears eat it up. im pretty sure it's not worth rebuilding. There's a problem finding parts for a 2G GS-T spyder in my area and they're hella expensive. So I found a 1G trans for $300. I've heard so much different stuff I can't get a straight answer. Will it fit right in or is it to much of a pain to be worth it? It's a 2.0L turbo.

That I do know. Now maybe you can clear up some cloudy areas. Can I just swap the bellhousing? Can I simply swap the internals into my 2G housing? Is Something like that feasible?
swapping bell housing is of of course possible. but take it from someone who has built 100 dsm transmissions. that job is more difficult than a standard trans rebuild.

If its only the end cap then repair it. What is damaged. And to answer your question yes some internals will swap. It depends upon the year. Unless you chewed up shafts and gears its likely salvageable
It does got some stuff inside that don't sound good. So what do you mean by "salvageable" ? Like just a rebuild kit or what? Cuz I'm asking to find out if it's cheaper to rebuild mine including a new end cap, or buy the 1G trans And swap all the guts out. It's $300 for a 1G trans or $200 if I pull it out myself

You wont know whats what inside yours until you take it apart. What failed?
Umm, it's hard to describe but its grinding in like every gear and has a LOT of shavings in it. So much that the oil is metallic gray. Had no 5th gear at all. (It's like neutral) and the lower gear on the tip of the trans opposite of the motor somehow managed to chew a hole in the trans cap. But it's still moving like its driveable if you go slow like 10 mph. And it doesn't do anything with the clutch pressed. So it's only when the trans is turning even in neutral it makes a lil noise

yes you can absolutely put the 1g internals into a 2g trans. i have done this myself and would do it in a hearbeat if i had to again. 1g trans have always been more common and cheaper.

Everything lined up perfectly? It's actually reliable and functional without major problems? Wow that's what I wanna hear! Is there anything particular I need to know about ?

Not all 1g parts will swap. It depends on the year as I already stated. You need to know what youre looking at. Ive been rebulding these units for at least 15 years now.

yeah i rebuild them as well, yes there are differences throughout the years, but it is of no matter, as you can just keep the gearsets complete. the jdm evo 1-3 and galants and rvrs are all similar too.
i put a complete evo gearset in a 1g case 6 years ago, its still being used, the current owner says it works great. I stuck a 92 style 1g gearset in my 93 vista trans (same as 2g trans) and ir worked great for a few years, sold the van and the new owner broke the shift fork LOL. hes a insanely abusive driver though

That's Great, I hope it'll work. If I have too I'll do that. Its way easier to find parts for 1G eclipses in south Texas LOL
