will a 1G trans fit in a 2G ?

I just bought a 97 eclipse spyder GS-T the transmission casing is chewed thru cuz a bearing went out and let the gears eat it up. im pretty sure it's not worth rebuilding. There's a problem finding parts for a 2G GS-T spyder in my area and they're hella expensive. So I found a 1G trans for $300. I've heard so much different stuff I can't get a straight answer. Will it fit right in or is it to much of a pain to be worth it? It's a 2.0L turbo.

Youll have to match shift rails, shafts etc. 92 and 2g are not the same. 3rd hub and sleeve will be smaller as is the fork of course. They may interchange if you take everything. This isnt a plug and play or simple excahnge. Its a complete trans teardown.

That is about like hens teeth here. It's expensive as $#!& here hard to find in the first place. So I've basically disregarded that option

But as long as it's possible I'll have to keep it in mind cuz I can't afford a 2G trans at all or even close to it. I'm experienced enough with standard trans rebuilding so I'm not afraid of doin a complete teardown n rebuild.

Then I would say go for it. You will need to at least reshim. I would recommend at least new intermediate shafts bearings
You may be able to mix and match parts if anything is salvageable. Honestly I'd take yours apart first. It's already undriveable. Seems you have nothing to lose.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take mine apart and go from there. Hopefully it's mostly salvageable.
