I have a 1998 gst and my brother gave me a rebuild engine from a 1g non turbo. my question is will the block from the 1g non turbo work on my car if i change the heads and the intake manifold. and what will this affect on performance(i also have a 14b turbo that i might install)

the 1g na has higher comp. and no oil squirters, but to answer your Q,yes it
does fit in your car.it has been done but knock kills those motors fast.

My first question would be whether or not you already had a 6 bolt swap into your car.

The non-turbo block will work however I would recommend putting new internals (i.e. rods/pistons) if you can afford it. Also, you'll need a knock sensor installed. You'll be limited to how much boost you can run on those stock internals. You'll need to add the oil squirters unless you go with forged pistons.

It can be done, but there a lot of things you need to consider.

So many run 400 whp without oil squirters with oem turbo pistons that I wouldn't even bother with them.

. . .If you are already going to take the block to the machine shop then its probably worth it. It wouldn't think it should cost much more. . . But you can swap turbo pistons and rods to the block without needing to take it to a shop.

These kind of questions about non turbo blocks in turbo cars just amazes me

DO NOT DO THIS! Unless of course you change everything out like the rest of the guys said. The 6 bolt swap isn't exactly cheap or easy either, but definitely a good thing to think about.

Hmmm, swapping the pistons in a block that is already out of the car is easy. This is the only difference that will really affect reliable performance. There is a minor difference in the intake cam between 1g turbos and 1g N/Ts. Turbo blocks are more difficult to find. And certainly not free. He's looking at paying for a new headgasket, new rings and hone, and a machine shop to swap the pistons. FAR cheaper than hunting down a non-rebuilt turbo block.

His N/T engine might just be a 6-bolt. . . No one asked.

It'll work, just like a 6 bolt swap. Turbo internals in a n/a block are fine, last one I built put down 342 whp.
