Why would I want a GM MAF?

I have been reading threads and reading more threads, and the wealth of information is overwhelming. Can someone tell me why I would want to use the GM MAF sensor and the Maft translator? I've heard things about temperature change issues, that the translator is locked in at 80 degrees which could cause tuning issues, etc. So Why would I want to use it?

I actually already have a GM sensor, and considering a MAFT gen 2...
 
The MAF-T is a piggi-back fuel controller which replaces your stock MAF sensor by changing a Hotwire signal to the stock Karmen signal which is used by DSMs. It allows the use of a GM MAF sensor. The GM MAF can be configured in 2 ways. Blow Through , the most popular, is when the MAF itself is in the upper IC pipe. This is beneficial for 2 reasons. First, it eliminates a restriction before the turbo; and second, you can VENT YOUR BOV , which everyone loves, by putting the sensor after the BOV and allowing backed up charge air to be vented before it is measured. The second method of sensor installation is Draw Through, which is far less popular, but still affords less of a restriction for the turbo, over the stock MAF. In this installation the GM sensor is simply installed in the stock MAF location. You cannot vent your BOV this way, since the sensor will be before the BOV and the air has already been metered. the GM MAS gets rid of the crappy, low-flowing-fuel-cutting-hunk-of-crap 1G MAS. It flows more efficient. Hope it helps somewhat, im sure u've found things like this.
 
If you want to vent your BOV properly.

If you are overrunning your 2g maf and don't want to convert to SD.

I'm sure there are more, but those are the two easy ones.

I already read that link, LOL.
I have a 99 gst, walbro 190, hallman pro, greddy type s, and am about to put on my new 14b. My question is why, other than venting the BOV, should I use the GM MAF sensor? I read that the stock 2g maf before the turbo can already handle airflow to support 400 horsies. If my goal is less than that, what are the benifits if a blowthrough setup?
 
Venting your blow off valve (if you can call it a benefit) and a little more accurate air flow reading. For your setup DSMLink would be more than sufficient.
 
Just picking up here, i had a Maft in my previous DSM and now im looking to come back- has anyoner ever treid the Maf-t pro with Speed density? i imagine it has the same tunability as the Mapecu the 2jz guys use?

i Still have a gm 3 bar sensor in the Garage,and a load of DSM parts ,so im looking to come back to where it all began :rocks:

2jz was cool, but gets expensive after bpu :ohdamn:
 
"The unit can calculate fuel delivery based on airflow and rpm this gives quite a bit of flexability in fuel delivery it is very easy to tune and eliminates the need for an AFC to compensate for mods or different size injectors." So basically it will greatly improve airflow and spool-up. Its so you dont really need an AFC, and i believe there is controls to adjust the air fuel ratio.
