Heres a few pics of what I'm looking at, It was a dull black gunk sh*t, I sprayed it with liquid wrench to take it off, thats why its shiny. The engine has 150,*** miles and seems like it has had limited maintenance done, but I cant tell what this black junk is and why theres so much of it? any ideas? The car had blown turbo seal, but I cant see that being the issue, though the gunk feels like baked on oil. I just can fathom this one, I wasnt losing much oil, deffinatly not enough to create this build up.

BTW it was much thicker before I started to wipe it down.

Old engines have gunk, just kind of how it goes. Valve cover gasket could be bad. When you blew the oil seal on the turbo did it spray the engine? A little oil attracts a huge amount of dirt, my guess it that's what you're looking at.

that and the car sees a lot of country time :D... you can clean it if you want shouldn't do anything just dont scrub around gasketed areas you be surprised how sometimes its whats stopping a leak.

I agree, that is oil that has leaked and gets thick with heat and dirt attaching to it. I recomend cleaning it all off and keep an eye out for leaks.

Well I'm glad I joined tuners, good community, fast responses, and helpful info. Thanks guys!

Lol It only see's 1 or 2 miles of dirt road to my house :thumb:, haha but boy do I crawl on my road.

That would be from years of oil collecting everywhere. And yes i would say either the timing belt or the tensioner needs to be checked/replaced

I already started changing the belt, pulleys, and water pump.
In the picture you cant quite see the dry rot on the timing belt, along with how lose it is.
