Blew up my 92 AWD tranny on the launch.
Found another 93 AWD tranny with grinding gears.
Here's where I am probably being stupid but if I only blew up the center diff and case I would like to use the 92 gears in the 93 case because I know it's all new (hub/slider) and didn't grind, where as the 93 is old and I really just need it for a case.
Should I escape failure here what are the chances works. Who's rebuilt their tranny and had it shift right?

i rebuilt my 99 rs tranny. and it ran perfectly but all i really did was replace the forks/bearings and snchros. I'm pretty sure theres a tranny site i saw somewhere. i got my info from reading i think a Honda forum and i just took it to my own to build my tranny. but after so i was surprised cause it was perfect. felt like a brand new car. after words i gave my self a pat on the ol' back. all you have to do is find the ipb(illustrated parts breakdown of a tranny being rebuilt and transfer it to your dsm. I'm sorry i haven't really gave you your answer but maybe helped you a bit.

I have rebuilt 1 fwd and 3 awd tranny. Really no big deal. Cars with the awd tranny
are running 11's so I think they shift fine. Go for it if you have access to a hydraulic
press.

I always rebuild my own tranny now as well. I bought a press for $120 and follow the vfaq and that's all I need. It's pretty straight forward and more so just difficult identifying which parts are good and which are bad.

Installed new gears 1 and 2 with syncros. Blew second gear out doing donuts one night. My buddy insisted that we rebuild it, so I we did. Surprisingly it wasn't hard at all, only thing was I accidently put the reverse light switch in the wrong hole, ended up destroying the switch, but once I found out what I did the tranny shifted great. Has been fine for almost 8 months now.

Well I went ahead and rebuilt it myself. Had the case welded up and put in a 4-spider while it was apart.
So far it shifts great!
Overall these AWD trannies are very simple to take apart and put back together.
There are a ton of shims though. I just hope I got everything shimmed back tight.

You didn't check? If it's not tight, you'll take out all your gears in the whole tranny when you hit boost. Somehow, one of mine got loose (input shaft bearing race), and all the internals of the tranny were destroyed the instant I hit boost in 3rd gear.

93 tranny is still sitting in the shed in a box 4 years later ROFL
Only used the center diff and 5th gear off it.
The shift forks in the 93 rode on all 3 shafts and only 2 in the 92.
But I remember not even being able to swap out forks because the fork sliders were a different width so the whole gear assembly would have to be switched.

Thanks for bringing it back jrohner, since it might work out for me & him.

Aaron, wanna sell the internals if I find out they will work for my application?

I am trying to do a double synchro 1-4, and I have heard that the late model 1gs (93 and/or 94?) have the provision for the double synchro 3/4. I am not positive unless I see the gearset. (Well not me but a friend of mine since, I really don't even know what I am talking about :D) Got a pic by chance?

I won't need the 1/2 gearset or 5/R. The early model 90-91 have the provision for the double 1/2 and I have a spare 91 AWD tranny.

Anyone know about building a tranny with double synchro 1st-4th like I am trying to do?
