Thought I had a TOB problem but appears to be something else. Sounds like marbles in the end of the trans by the p-side axle. Drives and shifts fine. This noise is at idle. Suspecting a bearing going bad. Input? This is in a stock 92 awd. Noise does not change when you push in the clutch, or ease it into gear.

Thanks!

It could easily be dying outer input shaft or intermediate shaft tapered roller bearings as well. I would strongly suggest taking off the transmission and having it sent out for inspection/rebuild if possible. It is way better to catch this problem before it hand-grenades your transmission.

Heck, it is worth it for peace of mind!

I've seen quite a few transmissions end their life by eating the rollers from bad intermediate shaft bearings.

Mine is making noise too. If I pull back against the shifter then the noise will go away. Mine sounds more like a bearing. Being tapered bearings that is probably the problem. I'm hoping to pull to the cover this weekend and see what I see.

The intermediate shaft does not spin while the car is idling and not moving. It sounds like your problem is not the intermediate shaft taper bearings.

Finally got the car in and took off the cover, someone has already been in there and put the dimples in to prevent backing out. No shavings, only thing was the end synchro popped out.

This video sounds like my trans at idle, mine is louder.

I don't know if this is my issue since my noise is at idle and I don't know what moves and what doesn't at idle. I have a spare trans but no time to change it now.
