From my own personal experience of running both is that the screen made a difference in airflow readings stability, which the ECU reads so if your jumping from 38lbs to 42 and back again it effects fuel and timing maps. Which means lean or rich. I never observed a drop in airflow with it in. Yes I don't think GM designed them for a pressure set-up and thats the risk you run. Do what you want, hell try both, just giving my 2 cents.
The GN guys run them under boost check on there site, and all aftermarket MAFS don't have screens so maybe its just me.....
