wtf is crankwalk...i have a 97gst and i have no problems with my turbo

i also have no idea what this crankwalk every1 talks about is

it's been refered on here by searching that a rough estiment is that 10% of 2g dsms have been known to get crankwalk. true it can happen to any car, just seems to hit up the 2g eclipses pretty harsh. if you don't know what crankwalk is, refer to www.vfaq.com and it does a pretty damn good explanation what it is.

oh yea,98-99 dsm's are less likly to get crankwalk compared to 95-97 dsm's. don't let it scare you away, it's a damn splendid machinery...just small problems here and there...go 4 it

AWD or FWD, 2Gs seem to get crankwalk more commonly than others.

Crankwalk is pretty much what is sounds like, its when the crank has excessive play, usually caused by thrust bearing failure.

My 95 talon is at 110K now and has not experienced crankwalk...its just a risk associated with a 2G DSM..It seems 97 models were hit the hardest...but it affects any year from 95 to 99.

Miatas are another car that has had crankwalk issues, so 2G DSMs aren't the only ones.

Crankwalk ALONE is no reason not to get the car.

I've owned (2) 100K+ mile 2g Turbo DSM's. Neither of them walked. People hype CW like it's killing all of us. Yes when it happens it's a big deal but it's over rated. Don't let it stop you from enjoying a good thing. You have a chance of wrecking your car everytime you drive, but does that stop you from driving??? Don't live in fear, life it too short.

My friend...If I were a phsycic i would gladly look into my crystal ball and tell you your future (i would also have an 800 Number and charge $8.99/Min) but unfortunately i'm not.

But being real, nobody can really tell you what's going to happen. Yes our cars are subject to their fair share of problems, especially if you plan on modding it. But that's with any car. Like i stated before i have owned 3 DSM's and haven't had any major problems with any of them. But some people have. If taken care of properly they can be reliable, if beaten on then they won't.

Thank god someone else has noticed that it's overhyped.
You shouldn't worry about shit you can't change or stop.
Crankwalk is one of those things.

How about searching before asking next time about crankwalk and who has had it also?

I had it but I went into buying a dsm knowing it could happen and I would worry about it if and only if it happen. The chance of you getting it is as likely as getting struck by lightning. Buy the car before someone else does and you miss out.

I did search. Most people dont wanna talk about it. All i found is info on what it is, I need to know how reliable the car would be? By the way, how many lbs. of boost does a stock 98 run?

Any stock car will be reliable, it's until you mod that shit breaks. I have light mods (in my profile) and my car has been perfectly reliable since I bought the car.

Stock boost is anywhere between 8-11 psi on 2g's, this can safely be turned up to around 15-16 (After that the t25 is useless and is just blowing hot air which isn't doing anything for you.) AFTER you open up the airflow (Intake filter, UICP, bov, turboback exhaust, and an intake pipe although it's not really necessary.)

Just read around, http://www.vfaq.com is an EXCELLENT place to start. I didn't know anything about DSMs when I started, and now that I've been reading and playing around I've learned quite a bit :).

Good luck man, and if you do decide to buy it, welcome to the family.

i bought into the mentality that crankwalk wasn't a big issue when i decided to get my talon. well guess what? when i drove the car home for the first time i noticed that it was already walking!! that was an upsetting day for me to say the least.... also according to the poll the chances of cw in 2gs is more like 20%.
