If you understand what a shiftbox is and what it does, why ask why you would need one? It helps us tell the tranny when to shift....simple as that. Why get one? ...so you can tell the tranny when to shift! As far as being "bad' its just a harder shift. I do NOT use my shiftbox for just driving to work or something because its a hard shift.

i just dont understand why someone wouldnt just take overdrive off or down shift that way if its the same thing.... is it the same thing 4 would be OD 3 with would drive without OD and 1 and 2 would be the same with a shiftbox right?

96awd THANK YOU

It doesn't work like that. When you manually shift with the shifter you're asking the TCU to do something for you. When you use a shift box, you're telling the TCU to do something. It doesn't ask questions, it just does it, it results in a faster shift.

First thing you need to do is stop with all the question and do a search. You need to read up and not try to do things the lazy way. Most of the questions you have asked in this thread could have been answered in detail with a simple use of the search button. Also I run nitrous in my car with no ill effects. I have been running it for a few years now and have went through at least 50 or so bottles. So if done right it works flawlessly. Do your research and read then read some more and when you come up with something the search button can find a answer for then make a thread.

i have questions for anyone with a fast 2G auto gsx i want 300hp what did you do to accomplish that

how much hp before you started putting work in trans

That is not fast in the DSM world, thats just starter mod.

you want 300hp, Tech Guide. Follow that and it will get you there!

I say listen to everyone and follow the path it is a proven way to make the car reliable at the power you are looking for. I just got a 96 auto awd and am doing the same thing under 400 daily driver for the winter times here in Chicago. Good luck with your build.

^I've never really heard of this before...why would the transmission make a difference in horsepower? if the turbo fully spools on matching builds you should yield the same horsepower...the only difference the transmission makes in power is how many times and/or how long the car is in boost as it scats down the track...and one other thing I'd like to address...brent rau's eclipse is the fastest 4g63 eclipse in the world and it's not an automatic...just for whoever it was earlier that wanted me to be aware of that.

the auto tranny steals hp a 5 speed and an auto with same mods get dyno'd 5 speed makes more so maybe you should of heard of that before.....

brent rau's eclipse is the fastest 4g63 eclipse in the world and it's not an automatic....
He's not? Guess you need to call Magnus and talk to Marco then and tell him the news. It is an auto and its mated to a GM trans. Next time you need to find your facts before you post.:applause:

Just so you're all aware, the fastest cars are autos.

tell that to Shep. Show me the 'fastest cars' that are auto's, and not g-force, lenco, etc.

No it's not an auto. It's got a g-force racing transmission with a triple disc slipper style clutch. I've seen the car and met him. If I didn't think he'd mind, I'd give you his phone number and you could ask him about it yourself. He's a cool guy, but he'll definitely put you in your place if you deserve it. Also, he does most of the work on the car himself, not Marco.

He wouldn't be competitive at his level with an auto transmission.

Get YOUR facts right. Next you're going to say he runs low compression, or a 2.4 or some crap.

Hopefully, this will clear things up for you.

-The automatic transmission will hold well over the 300hp you've been told without anything done to it. But it's STRONGLY suggested that you install a larger aftermarket transmission cooler to dissipate the heat. Heat kills automatic transmissions.

-Shift kits are a set of springs and new check balls that will help firm up your transmission's sloppy shifts. I recommend the Translab one. It's cheap, effective, and easy to install.

-Run Mitsubishi Diamond SPIII ATF. It will make your transmission much happier than any store brand. Change your trans filter at the same time.

-It's recommended that you upgrade your end clutches once you start putting down more power. It's cheap and simple. Many people do a shift kit, transmission fluid change, filter change, end clutches, and transmission cooler all at the same time. It's easier to do it all at once, but it can be done at different times.

-Shift boxes control 3 solenoids in your transmission's valve body. Two of the solenoids control all your shifting through gears 1-4 and the 3rd solenoid controls the torque converter lockup. They get wired in so they give your transmission the signal instead of your transmission's control unit (TCU).

-The "blue wire mod" refers to a mod where the line control pressure is set to the max by bypassing the line control pressure solenoid. This creates extremely firm and abrupt shifts, limiting slipping during shifts. This keeps the temperature down inside the transmission, extending its life.

-Some TCU units have a programmable (EPROM) chip. There are a few people/companies that offer reprograms. They can program custom shift pressures and shift points.

As long as you do something about the shift pressures, your transmission will hold up fine to a LOT more than 300hp, providing it's not already on it's last leg.

Yep. Our transmissions shift softly from factory for passenger comfort. ROFL While the slipping is comfortable, it creates heat. Remember, heat = bad.

Yeah, I feel more comfortable when I know my transmission isn't slipping itself to death.

I actually like my one car where I eliminated the TCU and just shift with toggle switches (free alternative to the shift box).

The shift kit in my car has some of my manual-diehard friends saying that maybe autos can be fun too. When it shifts, it gives you a little kick. I've thought about a shift box, but I'd want paddle shifters if I did that. I'm just not ready to do that yet.

Well thats a relief thats for the help.
I'm looking for an evo3 turbo i already have a 2.5 inch dp and exhaust dsmlink v2(no idea how to use it) if i get a evo front mount 760cc injectors and 255 lp pump and trans cooler. But with those mods can i pull 12.5s? with stock manifolds and 02 housing.

it's a g-force tranny...and have you ever watched the in-car-cam? that's not an auto up-back-up-back-up-hand on roof...watch at 5:16 here
YouTube - FASTEST 4 CYLINDER CAR IN THE WORLD

unless he's recently switched and I just dont know about it...and not ruling that out at all...
but in these pics...I would just assume that's a 5 speed considering he's got ACT clutch sponsorships on it right in front of the front wheels

I swore Marco said something about a powerglide when I ordered pistons. Maybe not I guess. Iv heard several people say he is a great and does his own work yes but Marco knows just as much that goes in the car as he does. I know its not a 2.4 its a high compression 11,000 rpm 2.0.

I have guys seen with ratchet shifters shift like that that's why I was convinced it was auto. The sticker doesn't mean anything Shep has an ACT sticker and runs a Tilton. He said the last time he ran an ACT was the 3200 when he was doing 8s and DDing it.
