Here are the highest serial numbers of the Talons pulled from CAPS. So assuming they do run in some ordered fashion -- and I think you need to be aware of the 9th digit (check digit) as well -- if anyone has the bolded VIN below, congratulations, you are the winner! It looks like if you have a FWD turbo, you don't have much of a chance.

Apparently the serial number is of all DSMs, not just one particular model or trim, so it's hard to say, what's your build date?

As many have said, serial number doesn't mean shit. From what I have seen in heavy equipment, is that the vin for the vehicle is created when it is scheduled. The vin's are used in order, but the vehicles are not necessarily scheduled in order. The only thing the factory used the vin for is the bill of materials so that the right parts are put on the right vehicle.

You need to look for a "Grand Sequence Number" or somthing. A number that actually tells its position on the line.

My car was number 45,128 (October 2007). Who has a Talon, especially an AWD Talon, with a higher last 6 of the VIN?

Good catch! I've been looking at VINs for days on end now, I just plain missed it in that list.

So I can't say if it was the last one MADE, but VINwise it's the highest serial number of any 2Gb AWD Talon.

Another interesting observation... It appears the Normal plant ran out of leather, or had a surplus of fabric they wanted to unload before ending the bloodline. Also interesting is the J14 Option Code which is unique to the group. A guess would be J14 means these cars LACK something that most cars have, due to the part or accessory being out of stock.

In the case of DSM cars and even the current Mitsubishi's (Outlander Sport), at the same plant, the VIN is just a number for registration for DOT's. The VIN numbers are not in order on the assembly line. So if anyone has the highest VIN number that doesn't mean that it was built last. As Bastard said scheduled perhaps. Not assembled. I know for sure, even the "last Galant and Eclipse" weren't the last ones built.
The number that is used for identifying the car in the plant is the serial number. That is the number that identifies the specific vehicle and all parts on the track sheets. (the sheet each work station uses to identify the correct parts to be installed. In the assembly shops anyway)
The number of the vehicle that is in order on the assembly line each day is the sequence number.
