err ok, so i have a 98 gst eclipse so roughly it's about 10 yrs old. recently if it sits at idle for about 10 mins, white smoke will pour out. if u drive it enuff after that, the smoke usually clears. everything's stock, no mods. one of the mechanics told me it's possibly the turbo and i would need a new one. also, when i took a look underneath the car, im not entirely wut it is, but my guess is the oil pan since it's next to the oil filter, it's caked in old oil. possible leak?

how many miles do you have on your car?

Don't rule out the possibility that your headgasket could be starting to fail. The seals in your turbo for water could be going, or someone could have put your filter on too tight, crushed your oilfilter cooler and you're mixing now.

As stated above, pull your dipstick and check for brown chocolate milk looking oil. If you do, you need to find were they're mixing, change your oil immediately, and do NOT drive it... the water in the oil could eventually lead to bearing failure. Which is not something you want to deal with.

Good luck.

ok im a little late to respond to this but i've been so busy. turns out it's a blown head gasket. the coolant and oil were mixing together and burning creating the smoke. also the turbo seals are worn as well. it'll cost about 3k to fix =\

Non sense. I had similar problems and just did the headgasket job. DO IT YOURSELF!

It is not that complicated. I've worked on cars before but have never done anything with a motor. I paid about $130 for a complete headgasket kit and ARP Headstuds. Be sure to get the tools you'll need and a service manual.

With some help you could probably get the head off and almost ready to put back on in a weekend. I did most of my work myself but my dad was kind enough to help out when he was free. The worst part I think was the timing. It's an absolute bi*** to get through but you'll get by just fine.

Turbo replacement is pretty simple as well. Like someone said though check your housing for oil/coolant mix.

How did you determine headgasket? Did you do a compression and leakdown test?

is it blue or white...i would say valve seals...but you say it doesn't smoke when your driving it?

i wish i knew how to do any of those but i dunt have the knowledge. i am a complete nub. also the dealer told me after they did a diagnostic test

i think it does smoke but it's just not as much. when i idle long enuff in traffic i guess it builds up and when i accelerate it gets blown out of the muffler.

That's the only way you learn. I had no idea what I was doing. But it's EASY, just time consuming haha.

Most likely you need to get your turbo oil hose replaced. When it gets old it crimps up so the oil is tramped and the turbo burn it up causing white smoking from exhaust. If that not the case then it is your turbo burn up oil. I check the oil level to see if it week at week.

i want to take sum automotive classes at this community college but i dunt have time.

hm idk. there is a leak sumwhere apparently since the oil level keeps dropping. i just know it's mixing wit the coolant sumwhere and burning up.

*edit*
i just got a call from the dealer who is tellin me that the stock turbo is not workin in the car. the guy says it'll cost 1500 just for the turbo itself. im wonderin if i can buy like a small 16g turbo and attempt an install by myself save loads since i see it cost around $600 compared to the $1500

$1500 for a new turbo is ridiculous.

You could pick up a 16g and install kit for like $400-ish.

And he's probably correct. I thought it was my headgasket blowing white smoke, but the gasket and vavles were fine.

Do a compression test.
