Hello all,

I just finished installing a walbro 255 fuel pump and replaced the stock fuel hose all with stainless steel lines with an earl's fuel filter. I also replaced the stock fpr with an Aeromotive AFPR. While doing that I also replaced the stock 90's oil cooler with a B& M cooler.

After I did all of this the car started up fine but the exhaust was just pure thick smoke. After letting it idle for about 10 minutes the smoke finally started going away so I took it for a drive. While driving it throws out a thick cloud every once in a while. If I see it start to smoke out I throw it into neutral and it seems to stop smoking. I have checked the turbo for play and it seemed to be in good condition.

I am kinda wondering if I put in the stainless line correctly. It is going from the fuel pump to the fuel filter to the rail. Is that the right way? I remember seeing the stevetek article on replacing the line and in it it also showed how to make some sensor or solenoid work with the stainless line but I didn't find any sensor between the pump and the filter on the stock line.

Can anyone help me out?

I dont know about the stainless line or the correct way of hooking it up but white smoke out of the exauhst is a symptom of a bad head gasket. Have you noticed if you are using a lot of coolant? I could be completly off but just thought id mention

White=coolant
Blue=oil
Grey/Black=fuel

Do a compression test and see what results you get. I can't think of how the mods that you did would have caused you to start blowing white smoke though. Have you confirmed that base fuel pressure is correct, via the FPR?

Thanks for the replies so far. The fuel pressure is right in between 40-45 psi. So I don't think that is the problem. I haven't done a compresssion test yet but I will be doing it today. Its also weird because its a lot of thick white smoke. I have checked my coolant each time I start it for a while and the coolant is still full. Also the car doesn't overheat. So I'm a little bit confused.

Okay, I picked up a compression tester. The results are 140ish across the board on a dry test. On a wet test they all came up right around 170. Although I think that's really good it leaves me wondering what the hell it could be. Any suggestions?
