Smoke coming from exhaust after idling

I have searched for the better half of today at work and cant seem to get what I'm looking for. Its fairly apparent I'm burning oil, BUT the only time I have smoke come out from my exhaust is when it has been sitting and idling for 3+ minutes. Once you hit the gas a nice cloud of smoke comes out that has the smell of oil, not overwhelming but enough to notice. I have followed my car with someone else driving and never see smoke come out when driving. Does anyone have an idea why it only smokes after idling and hitting the gas??

That usually means your valve stem seals are bad. Do you have any puff of smoke upon startup after it's been sitting? Smoke on startup and smoke after extended idling usually go together and like I said are a sign of bad valve seals.

that is my guess too. seems to be a lot of these here lately with the idle smoking. must be that time for many of the 2g and low milage 1g.

No puff of smoke on startup after sitting, only once its been idling a while. Havent noticed it at stop lights either so it takes ATLEAST a minute of idling. I was leaning towards that as well, but wasnt 100%. Thanks for the input.

I'd still say that's your culprit. Replace them and you'll most likely be golden.

Thanks a ton! I was hoping it wasnt anything TOO expensive. Ill have to see if that wont do the trick

most definitly your valve stem seals. had the same problem. changed them and no more smoke.
