Which Tuning solution???

Ok I am a total newb when it comes to tuning the DSM. I just received an S-AFC as part of a trade deal and I am wondering if its worth keeping or selling. My car is going to have a 3" turbo back exhuast, 2g manifold, 2g throttle body, MBC, Walbro 190 on it when it goes back together. I am considering an EVOIII 16g in the spring and my goal for the car is a 12.5 at the track on race gas. Is this S-afc going to be the best tuning solution for me or should I look into something else like a GM mass air or the DSMlink? Thanks

if you're just starting out, keep the afc. i am running an afc and a 3" gm maf w/ translator, and it works pretty well. no sense in chucking it if you already have it. install and enjoy!!!!

can you give me a quic rundown of your setup? The ricer in me would like to get a BOV that I can vent to the atmosphere and I thought you could do that with the GM mass air..Thanks

Don't get the 2G throttle body, keep your stocker. AFC will work fine but of course the MAFT and GM MAS is much better but you'll still need a AFC or DSMlink to fine tune it.

I meant to say it was the 2g throttle body elbow, not the actuall throttle body...anyone want to give me a basic rundown of what it takes to run the GM mass air setup?

well, i'm not an expert by any means on this, but i'll try and explain where mine is located.

you need a 3 or 3.5" gm mass air flow sensor, and a translator. you can get them from many sources on this board and others.

mine is set up in blow through style, meaning i have a front mount intercooler, and the sensor is located just before the throttle body elbow (in between the intercooler piping), but after the bov. since i only have 2.5" piping, silicone adapters had to be used on both sides of the sensor. if i had my freaking digi cam i'd take a pic and show u.

another way to set it up is pull through, i think that's where it's mounted on the actual intake pipe, just after the filter, but before the turbo.

i bought my car with it already set up blow through style, so i couldn't begin to tell you how to wire it up, but i don't think it's that hard. btw i think it's the afc that allows you to vent your bov to atmosphere, not just a gm sensor. i could be wrong though.

my current set up includes a b16g, fmic, 550 injectors, 255 pump, hks bov, afc, logger, etc. hope this helps you out a little. -Josh

Sounds good..thanks for the info guys..I think I am going to keep the S-afc and go ahead and get the GM maf and MAF-t over the winter. I am going to baby my car once I get it back so we'll tear into it when the warm weather returns...in Kansas thats about 4 months from now...Peace
