I don't want this post to turn into vendor/product review, however there is a third torsen type LSD available for nearly half the quaife. I bought mine from KarKing, and althought I have not installed it yet, there have been no problems with the transaction up to this point. In fact, there are some good things about this LSD, such as the speedo gear being incorperated into the LSD, rather than having to pay an extra $25 for it, and installation does not require shims. Like I said, I have not used it yet, but I plan to run it hard and report back. I am very confident in this LSD and encourage others to look into it. Do you all really think the materials and design of the Quaife are really that expensive that it should cost $1000-1200? Sounds like a huge markup to me.

Why do you say that the installation does not require shims? Granted my KAAZ did not require them either, however I did have them in stock in case they were required. Im curious about that comment.

I don't know either, I guess this LSD may have been made a tad larger than the stock one as I was told not to use the shims when installing this. I installed the new bearings and races and will see how it performs in a few days.

That really doesnt sound too promising. I think I would rather stick with a brand name in my opinion.

Is the the KarKing a torsion or clutch type?

Your're right, they should be so expensive. I can pick up a torsion style take-off posi (from SLP if you are familiar) for $100. Granted that is "used" (0 miles though) but how much does a used posi go for here? $4-550? They have us by the short and curlies... hopefully the carking unit will drive down the price.

The KarKing LSD is the torsion style like the Quaife.

Yeah, I sell LSD's for V8's, trucks, and mussle cars everyday..... It sucks that they cost only $400 or $500 and we all have to pay double that for basically the exact same part.

I've heard of many happy people using the KarKing LSD. It does look just like the Quaife. There is alot of high-HP 3S guys using it too, and it seems to be holding up just fine..... Sounds like it's worth the money.....

Promising or not, it is not the LSD's fault. I had a third tranny lying around so I had plenty of shims. Getting the preload right on the dif is not nearly as important as the intermediate shaft for instance as it does not affect the engagement/disengagement of any gears. if it rattles at all, I will simply take the case off, solder test it, and stick in the according shim.

So, brand name or not has nothing to do with whether or not it is a good idea to shim the dif. We will see how it works soon enough.

I used to own a kazza in my 1999 integra GSR. I like the way the Kazz work but it was too agressive around turns in general.. It would make my car bunny hop around turns and it was loud.. I did the figure 8's and still had the same problem with it. Also when it was wet out and you are take a turn the kazza will lock up make it impossaible to make the turn unless you get off the gas.. this is my experiance with the Kazza. This is why I would not buy it for a street car. But if you where doing a full race car.. I would do Kazza because I have driven both and the Kazza is much better. It responds quicker and faster. But the down side it still act as a spool around turns.

I was gonna get a Quaife until I read this. It seems they will fail eventually if, more likely, when you abuse them.http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75413&highlight=quaife+pics

This happen to me.. But don't confuse the center diff with the Front diff.. This happens only on the CENTER diff that quaife makes.. BTW there Warrenty for only the center Diff is :barf: 450 Bux. That is what it cost me to fix the center diff. I no longer have a center diff from quaife.

Kaaz for me With the Quaife on a early FWD you need to chang (sic)to AWD axeal (sic) in the front

Maybe you didn't know, but the axle size is the same between early FWD and all years AWD. At least where it fits into the diff anyway. The 92 and up FWD cars got bigger driveaxles. Quaife makes two versions to fit both styles.
