I'm sorry to have to ask this I know I'm probably going to get at least one person who is going to tell me to do a better job at Google.

but can someone help me understand what this product does how it's different from the factory one what are the benefits what are the drawbacks what are the applications

The differences are as follows:

OEM (open diff) : if you make power to peel out, one wheel will peel out because the diff is an open diff. This is not good for hauling ass, for rain, for cornering, etc. It "works fine" when both wheels have traction which is most of the time.

Welded diff : locked all the time, no difference in rotation between the two drive wheels despite the need for such in corners. In a corner a wheel should go faster if it's on the outside of the car than the wheel on the inside. Welded diffs don't allow for this. They do, however, allow full engine output to go equally to both wheels so they work well for going in a straight line.

LSD (like quaife) : the LSD will mechanically apply torque to the wheel that has traction and bias the torque between the two wheels in a peel out situation. It also allows one wheel to spin faster than the other in the corners. This means that if your car would peel out and torque steer to one side with the stock oem open diff, changing to this diff will basically cure the problem. It will also "give you a gear back" in a lot of circumstances.

My car, before the quaife, would blow the tires off in 3rd gear when boost hit. With the quaife, I have 3rd gear again and it just grips and hauls ass in a straight line. Keep in mind that this does allow this previously lost torque to be applied to all your gears so it's definitely straining the transmission parts in a way that it previously wasn't when the wheels would lose traction.
