My other option was the Quaiffe, but I did some research and found out that because the Quaiffe was a gear type that you can still strip out the gears, where as the spring loaded LSD would be a little harder to break.![]()
I have yet to experience any sevier wheel hop or one tire spinning out. It really holds true to it's purpose.
evolvingGS-t said:Like I said in my reply. I did my research i.e tranny shops, vendors, internet, personal experiences w/ both lsd.
That's how I came to the phantom grip.

The Phantom grip and other insert type products work pretty well up to about 325hp and then they just cant hold the load. I just put in the kormex (karking LSD) a week ago and love it!!!!! My car is a daily driver and having a true LSD has been great in regular driving in slipery conditions where the insert really didn't help. If your making any real power no matter which you have you still get wheel hop!
On a side note when I removed my dif to replace it with the kormex unit the phantom grip insert the phantom grip was still fully intact and with no visable damage to the carrier bolt.
It all boils down to what you want to acheive with the car and how much money you want to spend. If you only plan on going to the 300hp range the phantom grip or other type of insert will probablywork fine and will save you a ton of cash. But if high horespower is your goal I recomend you spend the coin and get a true LSD. I do recomend the kormex unit at $675 shipped! Plus George at karking was great to deal with. If you still want to go with an insert PM me and I'll let you have mine and the diff for a steal!!!!
Just my 2 cents.
What do you think is inside of your stock diff?? Levers, buttons, and chewing gum?? The stock diff is a gear style like the quaife. So now all you have is an OEM casing, with OEM strength gears, a block and a couple springs..... The quaife has a stronger casing and gears which in turn prolongs it's life. You are using a modified stock diff and that is what you should be worried about stripping the gears out of..... Trust me, I've done it.evolvingGS-t said:and found out that because the Quaiffe was a gear type that you can still strip out the gears, where as the spring loaded LSD would be a little harder to break.
Yeah, well obviously you stopped short of learning anything....evolvingGS-t said:but I did some research
Yup, I agree with that.Omega said:If you want a nice unobtrusive LSD that works, buy a KarKing or Quaife. If you want one that has the occasional clunk but once it is locked will stay locked, buy a KAAZ.
