Ok, if this is too newbie, you're welcome to move it, but I have found conficting answers in other people's threads. I have a complete 2g 7-bolt engine and am thinking of swaping for a 1g 6-bolt block with my 2g pistons and other applicable parts. My question is would I be better off leaving a 1g head on the new block, or would I see some gains by drilling the holes and putting my 2g head on a 6-bolt block? :talon:

alright just a few minutes ago my friend and i had his 1992 Laser RS AWD in our autos class and he mentioned that he added like a qt of coolant yesterday and now his coolant level is down but we couldnt find any external leaks in the system. is it a headgasket or leaks in the cylinders? we arent sure. also he had compression of about 155-158 ranging on all 4 and now we did a wet and dry test and compression is ranging from 105-115 on dry and 110-125 on the wet test. is his HG slowly getting worse. he just bought the car and it has a warrantied motor with 90k on it. let us know

leave the 1g head on it its flows a lot more without have to port match the intake manifold since witha 2g head you will want a 1g intake mani since its bigger...
and for bootsin yes his HG is gone or either his piston seals are shot one or the other.. does it smoke

Is there anything besides the pistons that I can re-use from my 7-bolt? Is the 6-bolt just all around a better engine? I thought there would be some part swaping between the two that people do to create a monster of an engine? :talon:

valve cover, and keep the head for shits and giggles. you can part out the rest of the parts on the block on the trader or classifides to help pay for the swap

The 2G head has a better intake port profile than the 1G head. However it flows less air in stock form than the 1G head. If you are not going to have the 2G head ported (and I am not talking about a level 1 or 2 port job here) stay with the 1G head for best performance in stock form or with light to moderate port work.

The 2G heads also have had some issues with porosity, so if you go that route have it pressure checked first.

Thanks for this info guys, I'm looking for a cheap 1g, 6-bolt complete engine now. I'll try to post some pics and what not when it's complete.
