Looks like Im about to buy a 90 dsm, awd tsi, completely stock.

When it comes to terms and crap like that I know what most stuff is, but if I came down to pointing it out on the car I would be lost.

I have a long summer a head of me, where should I begin to learn on how to WORK on these cars, I never really worked on a car before, Im afraid that if I do anything Im either gonna get injured, or do serious damage to the car.

Anyone have any suggestions for a newbie1?
 
well, the best thing i can think of and everyone on here can probably back me up on this, is just to read around and get yourself familarized with things, go to sites like vfaq.com, plymouthlaser.com, dsm.org etc, and just kinda read about how these things work, they are very fun cars to mess with.....well sometimes not, but overall I've had a great time with mine, and hopefully you will in the future also. good luck

try this site for finding stuff in your engine bay. havn't really looked through it too much but it isn't too bad from what i have seen.

as for working on the car get yourself a book (preferrably a shop manual from mitsubishi...yes i knwo it is a talon but mitsu publishes the book). Check out vfaq. Get yourself a good set of METRIC tools, and a torque wrench.

Remember these things are put together buy line workers who have nothing but a high school education.
 
Don't be afraid to bust it open and figure out how it works. You HAVE to respect it - do your best to remember how it goes back together, but don't be afraid to play around with things.

Once you've worked on it once, you'll know exactly what, where, and how to diagnose problems on most cars.

I used to be deathly afraid to touch anything, thinking I'd break something.. LOL, eventually I realiezed motors were MEANT to be worked on, well, at least 4cyls were, my LT1 v8 is a total BIT..anyway.:rolleyes:
