Where to purchase fake cat? (test pipe that looks like cat)

pretty simple.. i have a 3" high flow cat already installed.. and i have a 3" test pipe ready to swap when i feel like being dangerous hah.. but i would ilke to have one of those fake cats so i feel more confident driving without a cat .. esp around cali.. is this something i could get a local exhaust shop to do? or are there places online to purchase these?

Some states it is illegal to purchace used cats. It might be federal law, I'm not sure. That in short means you can run to your local salvage yard to pick up a cat. The heat sheild over the cat will pass a visual inspection, if you do it right. Definetly the cheapest option if you still have your old stock cat lying around...

Lol i drove through fresno last night coming home from vegas, if thats all illegal than imgoing to jail, galant vr4"s never came with airbags at all.

Or you could just take a pipe stick it in the cat, and hammer it thru.....

Oh and to the previous poster....cars before a certain year do not need seatbelts, windshields are not necessary in all states (jeeps that you can pop them down, and take the doors off for example), cats dont have to be stock, you can put new ones on or old, and steering wheel applies wit the seatbelt rule.

I live i WA and I guess you just have to know the people at the Wrecking Yard to get a cat if you're planning on getting one. I got one for my 1g recently because the guy who owned the car before me just straight piped the thing with no muffler at all, just header, down pipe and a bent tube to the back... never heard anything else back-fire as much as it did... i picked up a cat and a cat back to finish it off, sounds amazing now. who would have thought that a $400 1g would need some TLC.. and a new engine harness..? haha.

How would a gutted cat be more restrictive than a functional cat? The honeycomb shape is not there to straighten the airflow. It's for surface area with minimal restriction so unburned fuel can burn. It is still a restriction. Any time I gutted a cat I just put a piece of pipe inside of it.

I didnt read who said this but its wrong.
Maybe they had the idea that there would still be "sloppy" debree inside causing issues but thats not the case.

Glad mine is registered in VA. If I get caught without one they just write me a "defective equipment ticket and send me on the way. Granted that is an $86 fine, but that's not that bad. My advice if you have a VA registration, put a heat shield that looks like a cat on your pipe. They arn't going too look that close, they don't want to get dirty...
