wouldnt test pipe give a better flow vs. gutted cat has some torn edges along the walls?

anyone here used both testpipe and gutted cat on their car before?

When I put a gutted cat on my setup it felt the exact same.

Come to think of it, even a highflow cat felt about the same as a testpipe.

thanks.

what type of highflow cat you using?

yeah, im thinking there isnt enough pwr difference that you can feel btwn the high flow cat - gutted cat - test pipe.

what i am asking is which one do you think is going to make that extra few hp?

unless you are making huge power there really isn't going to be a huge difference, a test pipe might be better becuase there would be no neck downs in your exhaust like with using the stock cat and gutting it. However I would recomend going with a high flow cat. The power loss at lower power levels is negligable, and getting fined for drivign without a cat is not worth the few extra horse that you get from a test pipe. Not to mention your car doesn't smell like gas, you don't get the black soot all over the back of your car, and it quites down the exhaust which in turn attracts less unwanted attention.

i agree w/ you on the getting ticket, getting the unwanted attention and definatly about the neckdown w/ gutting the stock 2.25 cat or was it 2.5.

whats would be considered this high power level youre talking about? are we talking 400hp?
would testpipe shine through and be worth at around 300hp?

Just get a test pipe and if you need to go for emission then put the cat back in. everyone talk about the minimal differance but I would rather be on the high side of that differance then the low. Plus for 10 minutes work once or twice a year why not. Also, i have never got a ticket and had a cop look for a cat or tell em to get smogged. Even if they tell you to get smogged then put the cat in and go to town.

I see your point and for some people cruising around with no cat is cool, but in cali if you are caught without a cat its a 2500$ fine. The 3-4 extra hp that I would get from a straight pipe is not worth the 2500$. So for people where laws are strict regarding that I would stay away from a test pipe.

As for the point when you get to huge power levels, that is all really opinion but I figure that high 11 low 12's is the point where the difference might be more noticable, I honestly have no idea but for most people on this board it won't make that much of a difference with their mods.

if you have the catshell and hangers welded on, do you think they'll know? im not sure how knowledged these cops are  .... have you had any experience w/ them or know anyone that did?

cali= tail pipe testers, but I have seen many people do that in the hope that I cop would see it and leave them alone.

They arent going to test you on the side of the road. They will give you a timeframe to have it tested. Then you go home toss the cat back in and go get it tested no bigge. People are making it out to be more than it is. I knwo alot of people that live in CA that do this all the time and they have never had a problem.
