What department would I call to see about getting a duplicate VIN # for the dash? I gutting my complete interior and threw away the VIN with the dash like a stupid Newb.

I don't know of any place that will order you a new one other than the dealership. You may have to get the DMV involved and fill a form out like this one - http://bmv.ohio.gov/pdf_forms/3713.pdf

I didn't find a Florida form like the one above - Florida Motor Vehicle & Driver License Forms

You could try this - http://www.vinetcher.com/How-It-Works.htm

Thanks man, I figured Id have to go to the DMV, I just didnt want to walk in without a clue and have my car in the parking lot.

Check with your state troopers. Out here, a VIN is never replaced- a new number is assigned to the chassis by the State, and the old VIN is purged from the system. I think that's under Federal Law, and will be the same throughout the nation.
Do not mess with the pop rivets holding on the original VIN plate. They are not replaceable, and are of a design not available to the public.

yeah.. They are going to think you stole that car.. Here in cali, thats a big no no, and they will take you in no questions asked if that number is even messed with.. you still have the VIN in the engine compartment, though.. and I think its elsewhere on the chassis as well..
