I hear a lot of people talking about this turbo for sale on turbochargers.com but I cant seem to find it. Did they stop making it? My 14b bit the dust and I need something to replace it. Do they still make these?

I'm almost postive they discontinued it awhile back, but dont quote me on it.

I personally bought the GT Concepts turbo at the beginning of this year from turbochargers.com, and still use it. Its a very good turbo and still has no shaft play and I have been running it at 15psi pretty much consistantly.

I lucked out and got the last one they had at the time, they had just rebuilt it right before I asked about it. I got a steal on it too, $300 shipped. I would contact Shawn and see if he has another one laying around. He is the manager.

That turbo is pretty much a direct copy of a MHI Evo III, only it's taiwan-built. The early GT's had trouble with turbine shafts breaking, although they seemed to have cured this for the more recently produced turbos.

The turbos and the GT Concepts manifolds have both been discontinued to my knowledge. This is most likely due to the price of MHI Evo III's steadily dropping over the years.

Don't buy a turbo off ebay. There's a reason why it's so much cheaper then a real MHI Evo III 16g. They are not of good quality and have been known to fail shortly after installation. There are some people that have had good experiences with them, but it seems the ones with bad far outnumber them.

The DSMgraveyard is selling CXRacing 16g's for $300 shipped.
You can get the same garbage for $50 less on eBay direct from CX-R, with all the oil and water lines:

CX Racing Chinese 16G Turbo

I'm still curious as to what makes their Chinese 16G's better than other Chinese 16G's to the point where they have a higher price tag?

Well Im very close to buying the cx racing 16g off ebay, I need something fast because the car is my daily driver and the original turbo went and I cant find any MHI replacements cheaper than the CXracing 16g. All I need it to do is last until summer when Im out of school and can work for a real one. Think I can get 7 months out of it?

You live 30 minutes from me. Get your 14B off your car, bring it to my shop, and I'll have it rebuilt it under 2 hours for much less than an eBay turbo, and it will last longer.....as long as you're not faced with some type of oiling issue.

The GT Concepts Evo III GT was made in house at turbochargers.com but the BBL Group turbos were made in Taiwan. This came straight from Shawn at tc.com

Dont buy the Chinese tubos off of ebay, you will have a lot of problem. Drop the extra 200 on a real MHI

how much would it cost?
PM sent.

The GT Concepts Evo III GT was made in house at turbochargers.com...
Correct...out of Taiwan-built parts. They weren't building their own turbine wheels at turbochargers.com; they were simply choosing and assembling their own parts after they had trouble with the turbine shafts breaking on the turbos that were assembled in Taiwan.

Don't dive head-first into an Evo III 16G unless you're ready to buy some other parts as well.

- The Evo III uses a 7cm collector on the manifold flange, so you'll either need to port your existing manifold to match the 7cm inlet of the Evo III, or buy an Evo III manifold.

- The Evo III 16G's turbine housing outlet (where the o2 housing bolts) is almost 1/2" larger in diameter than your stock o2 housing, so you'll either need to port your o2 housing extensively or replace it with an Evo III o2 housing.

These are just mods to get the turbo mounted; we haven't begun adding supporting mods like intercoolers, fuel pumps, larger injectors, and other items to make an Evo III perform to it's potential.

If you bolt an Evo III on your car and run it at stock boost, the car is going to feel slower than it did with the 14B because the Evo III spools 400-500rpms slower than the 14B. If you're not going to run more than 15psi with your stock fuel system and intercooler, I'd really recommend no larger than a Small 16G in order to prevent making the car feel slower.
