Where should I start.

I have a 97 gst shell clean body everything but the motor still there. I just got a 1990 gst laser for the motor.. it's pretty much unknown to me the car was someone's project they left in a pole building for a few years the motor seems to be decent checked oil. It was dark but nothing funny. Coolant reservoir is missing and could see an in the radiator bit didn't have a flashlight. Where would be a good place to start I just want it good running condition before it goes into my 97. Any suggestions on where to start would help a ton I've been doing alot of research for the swap just not sure where to start getting the motor ready.

I'd start with a compression test. That will give you a good idea of the condition of your valves and rings. If it runs check oil pressure also.

If that car is in decent shape and has a title, if get it running without much work you might be better off selling it and using the money from selling it to buy a 97-99 2g block and head so it's a direct bolt in. 1g 6 bolt isn't a lot of extra work but it's not a 100% direct bolt in either. Just what I would do.

It's a parts car and would take quite a bit to get it driveable I might see if I can get it running this weekend. I'll start with compression test and go from there thanks for the start.
