Hey guys i've been tossing around the idea of installing a catch can in my gsx for a while because any time I boost hard i push more oil out of my oil return line out onto my exhaust due to the increase in crankcase pressure. I have been reluctant to change this seal out yet because i know after a few good pulls it's just going to leak again. I have searched and come up with a lot of half assed ways to install one using only the valve cover fittings but was curious if anyone knew if there was a location on the block somewhere like the b18's have that i could route a line from the lower side of the crankcase to alleviate the pressure behind the piston rings? Any input is appreciated thanks. matt

Tap into the valve cover- the head freely vents into the crankcase using the larger holes in the center and corners.

In your profile it says your running a small 16g, where is oil being feed from. If from ofh might be why you push so much oil, to much pressure for turbo to handle. I had a similar problem when i first installed my 16g. I went with ofh and turbo smoked so bad, i ended up swithing to head location and problem was solved. Ive also been running a catch can from side port on valve cover, and it works great.

Personally I did the dual setup (improved setup #1). I've been running it all summer including a few track days with no issues.

I just want to point out that using ports in the valve cover is not "half assed" in itself, although I'm sure you've seen some hackjob setups. If done properly, you can relieve all the pressure you need to through the valve cover.

And with that being said; a buddy of mine did drill and tap his block to evacuate the crankcase. It seems to be working about the same as any valve cover vented configuration.

He baffled the inlets there, so splash wasn't an issue.

He built a pretty nice fitting catch can, but didn't baffle it well enough, so he was getting oil coming though the other end. As soon as he builds a better can, we'll be able to really test how well the system is working.
