I've posted several times and even made a thread in the drivetrain section but my disability all stemming from my left hip, knee and lower spine have had me wanting an auto for years. Now the DSM autos can be made to hold power and go fast so it's time for me to swap, i get sick of needing a day off to limp around hurting after a few hours cruising at night

please some one point me in the right direction or read my thread in the drivetrain tech

1g or 2g auto you need help knowing what's What?
What do you need to know?Maybe I can help I know a bit about auto's..

I have a bad knee so I love the auto..
I really feel bad for you being all beat up..I hope it goes better for your body real soon:thumb:

Bud92.. it's my 2g gst i wanna convert to auto

E85_4g.. thanks I actually just registered there a few minutes ago, post counts are low but i guess so is interest in auto-trans in the performance import world

You want to convert your gst to auto..Well as long as your keep on the dyno it should be fine..On the track might be a call for slicks just to keep from spinning..But I'm sure you have a problem keeping form spinning now..

If it's a 2g it will be alot easier to do than a 1g..2g's have the same injectors, fpr and cam, as 1g's don't between auto and manual....But you don't have to worry about alot of that..

Your just basically looking at a trans swap, and tcu so it will shift will the pressing of the pedal..As well as the converter instead of the flywheel on the 5speed..

I'm not sure if the 2g auto's have different ecu's or not..So you might want to look into that..But this says the ecu's are the same.. Eclipse Talon Laser Galant 3000GT Stealth ECU ID Reference

I'm definitely making over 400 on a daily basis (i can't drive it and not due a good 3rd gear pull here and there) and my last turbo dyno'd 438 on E85 on 29psi and i daily drove it at 27-30psi (27 unless i needed the last few psi :D) now with the pt6776 i was reading logs and fuel usage was indicating right around 500hp or a tad less figuring some error to the safe side. Now i'm looking for 1400cc injectors to try and see if 6 is attainable (the engine was built for holding up to 600 with OEM Marine style reliability)

The PTE6776 was just going to be temporary untill i got an hx35 (thought i'd hate the lag and was in love with the "hit" of the smaller 57trim 49lb/mn turbo) but after feeling it on the street i had to have it (when it scared me to be the driver on public streets i said "damn, i gotta have this" .. :D Now I need bigger injectors and an auto swap and this thing will be a rocket.. What puzzles me is how the auto guys can come out of the hole so hard on what i'm guessing are only mildly beefed up stock autos with high line pressure, shif kit or self modding VB, and some good end clutches. I know there's restalled converters (and what ever nitrous balloon plates are) but a lot of people seem to be able to come out of the hole really meanly on big turbos and stock converters..that's what i want but i will manually shift and adjust my line pressure depending on driving conditions just to have the hard shift option, but be able to down shift at a lower pressure would be nice

Downshifting is not the easiest on the auto's..You can't go into first gear without chirping the tires..I hate that, with the shift box..That's the only thing I don't like, but launches are great..

A stock rebuild should handle 400, hell stock auto's have handled 400...But there is always upgrades out there..

Heres a couple of links you might want to look into.. RoadSurge.com

in the second link the car downshifted smoothly it seemed. is that becuase the line pressure is stock? if so i can setup my trans control to disengage the line pressure (blue wire) mod for downshiftsor to only come on under certain conditions when i'm reallly hammering on it)

I was under the impression that the line pressure was full, which is why first will chirp tires, and also why the shifts are hard firm shifts....I've seen the blue wire mod done a few times but never really looked into it..And I would also really like to know how to not get full line pressure going into first..

I could also have my box wired wrong but it seems to shift great, exept the first gear thing..And I've never really looked that hard into the blue wire mod for downshifting..Every other gear it goes into fine..It's just first, that you have to be pretty much stopped..

so did you make it auto yet just curious...........if not i have a auto lookingh to do a 5spd swap:aha:

Well can't you see at the top on the first post, that it says today..LOL..

You should read more of the thread next time bro..But we all do it sometimes so don't worry..I still had a good laugh about it tho..

it's all good, No I have not started the swap yet. Just starting to do the serious research with so many sucesful high power auto's out running the 1320 these days.. like a lot of people seem to point out in the 5spd vs. auto threads i've found.. to go fast with a ig turbo on my 5speed i have to flat shift and possibly break parts on an expensive transmission that i would want to send tom TRE if it broke becuase of the way certain things are done that are out of my hands. on the auto though i have the ability and machining stuff to do a lot of performance work myself as well as rebuilding cheaper than if i sheared a couple gears in my TRE so that's looking to be the kicker in swapping me to the "dark side"

Bud92.. The blue wire mod can be turned off.. you build the curcuit into a DPDT relay to where it's wired normally on "NC" and run the resistance or whatever on the "NO" side

2G Auto Trans, Precision or Sinister Speed 2G Torque Converter with a Foreign Muscle TCU Chip is a great start. :hellyeah:

If you keep the 67mm turbo you're not getting away with a stock restalled converter unless you want to run boat loads of Nitrous. Precision or Sinister Speed make high stall 2G converters so you can footbrake that turbo up and leave with boost. :thumb:

Car Cannibal.. how much nitrous and at what RPM would you think it would have to come on with a re-stalled converter? How much are real billet converters? (i'm afraid to look cause i know it's gonna crush my dream to convert cause of my bills vs. money issue LOL) i've heard 6-700, i've also heard 1100+

Also on a complete new aftermarket converter..what are the typical stall speeds and how do they do n daily driving because that's the most important for now (hope to get a small truck DD in a year or so)

Also with manual shift boxes how do the auto do in the ~8.5 - 9K RPM range shift points? Right now i shift about 8 tops, but want ro upgrade cams and valvetrain in the next few years, i'm always planning for the long term on my builds)

In the 10" thread, a 1G with the Sinister Speed 10" was hitting it with 75hp shot on a 74mm turbo and they saw around 4500rpm. Since you have a smaller turbo I'd imagine a 50hp shot will get you at least in the same rpm range. Another thread had a Sinister 10" with a 67mm turbo and he saw 3700rpm without Nitrous and low 5000rpm with it so they'll definitely get you into the proper rpm range with that turbo.

Check to see what psi you're at around 4500rpm while at WOT and you'll get an idea of what you'd be leaving with at the line.

The Precision is $1100 and the Sinister is $525, the Precision is a lockup and the Sinister isn't. Keep in mind that brake torquing kills the clutches so they'll eventually burn up like a few of the locals converters around here did to their Precisions from brake torquing. I think Precision takes off $200 for the non lockup version, not exactly sure though.

You can turn it off..Sweet I'm gonna look into this then..Something I did not know..Although I've never read intot he blue wire mod either..

You will love the auto.

we are on season number 2 with the auto set up in our fwd 1g.. We have almost 9 runs with over 141mph. Our best run was a 147 mph and keep in mind we are tuning with an AFC ,

converter is a hughes unit which has 2 passes on it. virtually stock 1g tranny and quaife.

Before the auto, I was shattering gears left right and center, went through almost 6 trannies before I made the switch.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, or if you come to the shootout, I would be happy to chat with you .
