when to upgrade auto turbo?

ive read the 1g tuning guide.. and i know it mentions to upgrade the turbo for the automatic (which i have) but it doesnt say when. (none of my friends with dsm's are sure when to upgrade either, they just say to do it)

when should i upgrade the turbo? i dont expect to get anymore than 300hp from my talon, so stick with the 14b or get a small 16g? upgrade the injectors to some 450s at the same time?

The little 13g is a hard working turbo, I think it pulled harder than my friends T-too small in his 99 GS-T. However, if you install everything in the tuning guide to reach the 300hp goal you will need at least a 14b and 450cc injectors. Also keep in mind a couple of things, first, that the AT ECU has fuel maps for smaller 390cc injectors so the ECU should be replaced also as well as installing an AFC to tune with. Second, the AT cams are designed for a little more low end power so upgrading to MT cams will help also.

I have a 1g automatic and am *almost* ready for a new turbo. Here is a list of some supporting mods you should do before upgrading your turbo:

Intake/Filter
MBC
Exhaust
New Manifold *required*
450 cc injectors *required*


A MT ECU is probably not totaly required, but the car would run alot better with it. You will need a new manifold, check out diamondstarmotorsport.com they have a kit with everything you will need. This its not a cheap thing to do especially if you want to change everything to MT. Cams are not a huge deal, you can get 300hp with the AT cams.

yeah, ill be grabbing an safc for fuel tuning. i have one in my neon and really like it.

so heres what ill have before i upgrade the turbo:
intake pipe (dejon)
mbc (joe p)
boost gauge
high flow cat and 2.5" exhaust

when i upgrade to the 14b and 450cc injectors.. ill also be putting in at the same time:
2g exh mani
better o2 housing
downpipe
EGT

id also like to get an "upgraded" side mount and some hard intercooler piping done about the same time.
sound good?
