It was the night of October 17, 2007, in a little town about an hour away. A friend of a friend and I worked out a deal on his 91 Talon TSi AWD 5-spd. The car had been sitting at his parent's barn for almost a year and the guy before him haggered the car for two years. He said it had overheating problems... no biggie, I had an engine in the garage that was building for my FWD. The car cosmetically was in rough shape and mechanically not as bad. But for a few hundred dollars I knew it was a project that I couldn't resist. The three of us where making our way back to the metro (only five miles away from the above mentioned barn) the car stahled out and would not restart. It had no oil pressure or water temp gauges functioning btw. After repeated attempts and some law enforcement harrassment, we got the car roll started and got into the heart of the city. As I was about to merge off of the Freeway, the car died again. I couldn't get it to even roll start, and before I knew it. KABOOM!! Smoke everywhere. I slowly popped the hood to see the radiator hose blown off. I called my Father to tow me to the garage after some more law enforcement harrassment. Needless to say, the head was warped over .012" and there was a balanceshaft bearing laying in the oil pan. So I scrapped that motor and kept building my started motorl. Here are a few pics of the car when I bought it. I'll post more of this story later...
