whatw wrong with this

I took my 90 GSX out for a drive today.(20 mile round trip) and when I was on my way home the car died on me. I got to a safe place by coasting in N got stoped poped the hood
and nothing looked to be out of place the motor would turn over but the cams wouldnt move so I checked the timing belt and it wasnt broke so the cars in a parking lot and it wont crank what could be wrong. please help.

What happened when it died?
Sounds? ect,

I dont understand how the crank will turn over but the cams wont if the belt is still working,
Either way if the crank is moving and the cam isnt theres a good chance you have bent valves.

well it just died on me there wasnt any sound to discribe and youre right I dont understand how the engine would turn and not the cams I pulled on the belt and it didnt pull out but it may be broke Im still going to reolace the t belt so whats the best belt to use

when my timing belt broke the belt was still tight on the top. When taking it off we found that the belt snapped on the bottom of the crank. I had to replace the head, bent the valves. When my belt broke it never made a sound, just died...

More than likely your timing belt stripped. Pull off the timing belt cover a visually look at the belt for missing ribs by the crank pulley. Your probally looking at bent valves, so your going to need to pull the head off to access the damage.

When was the last time the belt was changed and also is your bs belt still installed on the car?

ok the story on the car is along one but anyway the motor was rebuilt new tranny and it had around 5000 on it and the turbo went the car was gave to me as payment on a tranny swap on a maxima they guy is a stand up guy so I know he wouldnt BS me on it
I havent tore it down yet to kno it the balance shaft is still on. If it is is it ok to remove it?
if its not on do I need to put one on? Ive only had the car 3 days and didnt expect this to happen

Pull off the timing belt cover and you'll be able to inspect the timing belt and be able to see if you have balance shafts or not.
