My opinon is Evo III. I dropped mine in and definitely noticed the difference. Comparing the two side by side was rediculous. You can normaly pick one up pretty cheap, i got mine with a 3" downpipe for 150.

about halfway down is a good size comparrision pics.
good luck!

The evoi 02 housing is made different and will require some modification. I would just port the 2g 02 housing.

Yeah good point, the evo 02 is slightly slanted. i remember comming across a flange a while ago, you can just cut yours off and weld the new one on basicaly. although welding isnt too convienent with most people you could always take it to your local muffler shop and have them knock it out pretty quick. Yeah if you have a 2g 02 and could spare the money for something else just port it really nice and smooth. I have heard of people mounting evo 02's without mods, takes a little elbow greece. In theroy its putting more stress on the welds on like your flex section if you have to force it into place, but i haven't come across anyone whose flex sections broke from this??? It looks like whoever i bought my dp off of had already welded on a different flange to match up to the evoIII.. or they just did a horrible job on the weld the first place haha. either way fits like a champ.

Personally, I wouldnt have anything but the RNR racing 3 inch 02 housing,

its a full 3 inches all the way through, port your 2g to that size, haha.....

I bought it as a dump years ago, and Cut the dump and welded it up for a EXT gate setup on the current car.

There is a guy on here his company is newlogics and he can make you one, he just made one for me, because everyone i tried to order was on back order for atleast 6months, he made me a 2.5 inch one with external set up for 260 and that included shipping from ca to fl and it fit perfect and mounts exactly like the stock 2g does. Oh and it only took him 2days to make it.

The SSautochrome/XSpower O2 housings are dirt cheap and work just fine. I've had mine for about 6 months and had it all through the winter, that's the worst heating/cooling it will ever see and still no cracks. Get one with an external dump if you're still internally gated. I got mine for a whopping $110 shipped.:thumb:

I would never even bother with porting a 2G or Evo, its a waste of time. They'll still never flow like a tubular and that wastegate flow path is still hurting you.

I agree. I got mine for 75 shipped and is the best bang for the buck o2 housing. Like BeatGSX said if your internally gated (which i am) get one with a dump, i have an internally gated 57 trim ( i'm to broke for an external wastegate setup atm) and it sounds very intimidating at full boost, and makes top end power feel oh so much sweeter.

I'm going to have to agree with the SSAutochrome O2 housings, but disagree with the dump. I've got a dumped one on my car right now, and it was cool for the first week or so then it got annoying as all hell. I finally just bought a new tubular recirculated one that I'm going to put on soon.

by too annoying do you mean louder? I have a mild mannered daily driver and have thought about purchasing one. The previous owner welded up a straight through exhaust so the car is relatively loud anyways.

No its not too loud at all. Complaints about open wastegates are a joke. Its only open at or very close to WOT, and who's car isn't loud at WOT?

I hear mine 1, maybe 2, days a week. Yes its loud when its open, but if you're hearing it constantly, you need to relax the way you drive. For your sake and your car's sake. If you don't want to hear it, GET OFF THE GAS!

I figured it would only get loud at full boost with an MBC, so unless your driving WOT all the time....

Now, with an EBC that gradually opens the gate to prevent spiking, it might be a diff. story, I really don't know though

Or just get a tubular that re-routes, the only thing you really gain from an O2 dump, if you want to call it that :barf: , is the annoying sound and a huge sticker that says " I don't give a shit about anyone else but myself". :)

That, and an enormous decrease in backpressure. You now have all that exhaust that doesn't have to be forced back in with the rest of the exhaust and go through all the way to the back of the car. Its effectively like running a bigger exhaust.

I also have the dumped one, and for a daily driver, it did get annoying. I wish I would have gone with the one that re-routes back to the exhaust. It's only loud when you reach your selected boost level(when your wastegate opens), so no, not just WOT. It sounds like a dump truck and does bother a lot of people that have one. It's way louder than just a loud exhaust. If you like that sound, go for it, if you don't then get one that's re-routed.

If you're maxing out a 3" exhaust and is in dire need of something bigger for an O2 dump to make a difference, you have no business running an internal setup. ;)

Very good point.:thumb:

You know as well as I do though, all rerouted O2 housings have the wastegate gas routed in too close to the turbine exit (it has to be, the O2 housing is small) and at a very bad angle. If you're going to reroute it, it should merge back in on the downpipe by the oil pan at a very shallow angle. Far enough away to not hurt flow. This is how most aftermarket downpipes are designed for the cars that have downpipes bolted directly to the turbo.

Some of us beat on our cars quite a bit, and like to hit WOT a couple times a day. When I go WOT with my car, straight-thru 3" exhaust and dumped O2, you can hear it from a mile away. It's great to scare people on the freeway with their windows down, but that's about it. Since I don't have AC in my car, I drive with the windows down all the time, and the dump is obnoxiously loud when I hit the gas.

these are all great replies thank you, however i can't tell from the responces of those with a dump, just how much "louder/worst" are we talking. if at only top end, that makes sence and i could handle that, also can you pass a cali smog test with an o2 dump or does it have to be a recirc.?

I'll try to help you understand how loud it is with some examples. Keep in mind it is ONLY open under FULL boost.

Doing a 2nd gear pull past a divider wall or buildings close to the road will leave my left ear ringing for 10 minutes. Making a pull past oncoming traffic, EVERYONE will look over, including people with their windows rolled up, ghetto guys with rap blasting, little kids on the sidewalk, EVERYONE looks when the gate opens. A few people I've raced (the ones that were beside me most of the time) said they couldn't hear their own car.

Just keep in mind what a dump is. Your exhaust is coming right from the head, not through the turbo and out a 6" unmuffled pipe. It is LOUD, but the sound is hard to discribe, it sounds nothing like exhaust.

But as I said before, its only open at full boost. If you go around making WOT pulls 40 times a day, then you have no business with a licence or that car. Go buy a Kia or something you wouldn't kill someone in.

Remember the other thread? You can easily hit full boost and open the wastegate at part throttle.

Who said anything about "40 WOT pulls a day"? I live in the desert, and there aren't a lot of cars around here. The only places I drive to are the barn where my horse lives and to class 35 mins away. Driving to the barn is one lonely straight road, and it's fun to do pulls along it. Going to class is all highway, and people drive slow out here.

Ok so why are you complaining? This reminds me of people that whine that their 700hp Supra gets bad gas mileage. Or that their car with $5,000 coilovers, poly bushings and pillow ball mounts doesn't have a comfortable ride. Or maybe even the guy with the 8 second car that cries about having to step over the roll cage to get in and out.:toobad:

My point is that an O2 dump is very different then a loud exhaust. A loud rice boy exhaust you have to listen to ALL THE TIME. It never goes away, it drones on down the highway, it pops and burbles when you're decelerating. An O2 dump isn't like that, YOU control when you hear it. If you don't like it, get off the gas. No one needs full boost to drive at a normal pace (WOT or not oldman;) ). You're making this guy think he's going to have his ears bleeding just pulling his car into the garage.
