First day I bought my awd in December last year the E-brake breaks. I was just parking. I guess the previous owner never used it or stretched it out. Christmas day I'm leaving a stop light and I was harder on it usually taking the interstate. It was a very loud squealing sound. I immediately pull over thinking it was something in my turbo or my fans. I didn't see anything and I started the car up with no problem. Which was a bad idea. but I had to get home and I would worry about the damage later. I get home and there is smoke rolling from under the hood. I never did figure it out. I take it to a dealership and they tell me it is the clutch. I have a shop replace the clutch (worst idea I ever had.) Protip: always do your own repairs. Right after I get the clutch replaced I take the car around to break in the clutch. It is still slipping. Turns out it was the xfer case. :barf: I found out the transfer case was under recall. For a month I tried to get a dealership to honor the recall and do the work but i never did. I end up buying a rebuilt transfer case and putting it in. 2 days later my clutch master cylinder goes out.:banghead: The entire time this is happening I keep trying to figure out all the boost leaks and fixing them but they always came back. I replaced throttle body gaskets to get rid of some of the boost leaks. When I put the tb back on I tightened the bolt too much and 2 bolts snapped. Both were still in the intake mani, and I had that replaced. I ended up replacing it with a 95 manifold but I needed a 6-bolt intake. That took me forever to figure out. :ohdamn: putting everything back on i break one of the fuel rail bolts off in the head. WTF that was a pain in the ass. After that I just said #### it. If I'm always going to be waiting for it to be fixed than I might as well rebuild it. Which I am doing right down. rebuild should be done late this May and I can't wait.:hellyeah:

I was driving down hwy 16 towards saskatoon from edmonton during the worst snowstorm of the year.. They actually closed the roads down an hour after I departed. So anyways I was testing the AWD handling capabilities of my car combined with my brand new toyo garit KX tires and I was so impressed with my talon that day, I decided to increase my speed to 150 KM an hour and I was almost in a constant state of drift but doing well. I decided to catch some footage on my cell phone so as I was messing with the phone I didn't see a car was in my lane going well under the speed limit of 100km/h. Last second decision to drop the phone, swerve into the right hand lane.. ended up passing him sideways as if he were standing still, and continued to spin off into the ditch with an explosion of snow and ice. heh ok my bad and I won't be doing that again LOL.

The car was buried up to the hood and I could barely push the door open there was so much snow. Had about 3-4 cars that I had previously flew past, stop and help me dig the car out but it was deep so I caught a ride back into town and came back for the car later on with shovels and a tow chain. Barely a scratch to my car, though I somehow lost my daytime running lights module and both my fans. Engine bay and wheel wells were completly packed with snow except for what had melted from the exhaust manifold. Good times.

Boost Controller randomly didn't work. Caused a boost spike of ~32 PSI. Combined with a crankwalk symptomatic motor, equaled complete carnage.

-Number 1 piston rod let go.
-Blew 3 holes in the front of the block.
-Blew one major hole in the back of the block.
    -Machine gunned the oil pan.
-Blew out the back of the block with so much force it broke the starter in half.
-Blew through the oil pan so hard it busted the transfer case.
-Hit the transfer case so hard it completely cracked the transmission bellhousing.
    -Oh... and bent some valves.

    That was a fun day.

Well for me it was 2 weeks after I bought the car. I was driving home on the freeway one day and heard a LOUD clunk sound and the car quit responding...engine ran but no response to the wheels. Well I pulled it on over and looked to find that my tranny bell housing had broken completely in HALF!!!! Needless to say i had to replace a lot of damaged parts. Found out that it all happened because there were no bolts in the rear mount to the tranny...seems the holes were stripped out?!?! Hmmm...kid I bought it from didnt mention anything about that...wonder why. LOL:banghead:

it was my first dsm, a 1998 Eclipse GST 5spd. Was so in love with the car it was rediculous. It took me 4 months to save up the money for the down payment. i had the car for 3 days and got up for work and went to leave, decided to check my oil and everything. The car had a fiberglass functional keystone good hood on it and i guess whoever put it on didnt line up the latch correctly. i shut the hood when i was done checking the fluids, i didnt slam it ### i didnt want stress cracks to start. i set it down and pushed on it til i heard it latch. i pulled up on the hood a few times to make sure it was shut and it was good. i got 2 miles down the road and my hood flies up at 65mph! i ended up taking it back to the house where i could check it out good. it broke my hood, smashed the roof in, shatteres the windshield, and when i pulled over my front bumper went in a dip in the grass and it broke too. that caused $4780 worth of damage. the body shop had to cut my roof completely off and the bottom of the A-pillars and all the way back then put a whole new roof on my car. they had my car in their shop that i had just had for 3 days well they had it for the next 4 and a half months. i got the car back and 2 weeks later the clutch went out. i bouth this 98 gst in 2004 and it only had 59,000 miles on it. when i got rid of it in 2005 it had 66,000 miles

Found out the guy that owned it before me had no experience with turbo cars and was running 25+psi untuned with 550cc injectors no wideband in the car to see afr's and was tuning it with an hks ecm and couldnt shift worth a damn so all the synchros and gears where screwed and fried the racing clutch that was in it!!!!! So i bought a piece of shit and polished it into a shiny turd!!!

    X2 man.
Bought my talon in August from a guy who "promised" it would pass emissions.
Its sitting in my garage and the temps ran out. So now theres a lovely fine of 25$ a month until it can pass emissions. It doesnt help its not drivable due to a small yet very damaging accident caused by faulty brakes.
I didnt know what i was getting into. But i still love my dsm.

i bought my 93 tsi from a guy "turbo tony" who apparently has a reputation for knowing what he is doing...:banghead: well i bought the car and drove it back to my shop where it sat for 2 weeks while i put it on the road. the day i registered it i went to dunkin d's on my lunch break, my MHI big 16 started to make this howling/ groaning noise under boost. i couldnt figure out what was going on,was the waste gate stuck? was there a big leak? well i pulled the intake and the shaft had some play but not that bad , but it wouldnt make boost, so i called the kid i bought it from, he said he had a stock 14b he would give me and assured me that I would make it to his garage, so i decided to take the 45 min. trip, i was about half way there when my oil pressure dropped and smoke was pouring out of my hood. luckily i coasted down the hill and made it off the exit to a mobile station, there was oil all over the engine bay, i left my car there and my girlfriend had to pick me up and bring me to get the turbo. while i waited for her to get there i began to disassemble the turbo from the car when the oil feed line broke at the turbo. so i got the turbo but he did not have a feed line... i had to take tranny line and high pressure fuel line clamps to make a feed line and make it home. that tranny line swelled up like a balloon!!! but it worked, i just had to keep the oil pressure low. after that there was just so many ####ed up things i found along the way, no hardware in the rear brakes, pads in wrong, vacuum lines routed wrong, boost controler in backwards, front springs in upside down, i cant think right now but i know that there is more...either way i love my dsm, and i have just began to go down the mod path and i doing everything the right way.

1g 90 talon tsi awd...i bought it from a guy in michigan for 2900(i live in arkansas) car appeared to run fine...I had to work so my dad went to pick it up for me...drove it all the way from michigan just fine and i was so excited i went to meet my dad like 30 miles outside of my house i told him that i was coming as well...then we were both driving on a NARROW 2 lane highway with no shoulder i was going one way he was going the other, then we passed eachother and he has the great idea to try and make a u-turn(WITH THE TURNING RADIUS OF A DSM!!!!!!!!!...ON A NARROW NO SHOULDER HIGHWAY) well he hit the ditch and a log and snapped the right rear control arm in half...well we got that fixed and this car was a hoss i mean running wise it would take hell... until i decided to stay awake all weekend then try and drive to school the next morning...yeah i hit a guard rail at 75 cus my dumba$$ fell asleep(I'm sorry baby) well anyways i ended up buying an extremly clean shell from one of my buddies and didn't do the proper research beforehand...it was a 91...not a 90 so as you ###### know the 90s are way different so it took a little bit to accomplish the swap...in the process i dumped about 3 grand in go fast parts into it...so i'm at school and Dad shoots me a text saying that he's gonna pick me up in my car today cus he's gonna get tags and insurance for my birthday...so i'm excited...well i get another text 30 minutes later to catch the bus...and i'm like WTF...then halfway home i see a gorgeous red talon pouring black smoke from the motor...needless to say he fu***d some sh** up LOL so in the long run i sold it before getting it fixed and that was my 1g dsm experience

2g 1998 Eclipse gsx Bone stock i mean BONESTOCK!!! nothin done to it at all ran great drove great...i'm a marine so i'm in Camp lejeune, NC now and i bought it in western NC for 6800
so i'm go on leave and take my baby on a 1000 mile drive to ARKANSAS everything went fine drove it around for a couple weeks there then Drove it back and i'm excited cus nothing went wrong the whole time... i parked it and went into a store came out...started it and my check engine light came on...as it turns out my isc, tps, brake master cylinder had to be replaced so i got that done then the next week my brakes went bad...got them replaced... then got my exhaust...hell ya...well idk if y'all remember that bad blizzard that hit tennessee, virginia, nc, and around that area around christmas yeah well i went on leave again and drove through that LOL to some extent...i'm thinkin i'm awd i'll be fine and all was well untill i see lights rushing up from the hill behind me...18wheeler out of control i bout sh** myself...well then after all of that mayhem i make it home safe and sound... well my boys and I have this mountain that we race on back in AR called push mountain and i mean we're out there all day long just playing around and about my 5th time through there is this 20mph curve that i have been taking at 70-80 all day long and for some reason this time is different...long story short UNDERSTEER!!!!!! luckily i was able to get my wheels spinnin so all i did was smash a taillight and slightly bend a fender...oh and a bent wheel and a basketball size hole in my side skirt but

Those are my Dsm experiences....so far and they ain't stoppin haha love it

I just got my car back on the road a few weeks back after being down for a clutch job(clutch spring popped out) and I drove 6 hours to have a good friend tune it, and while he's out tuning it it blows a coolant hose off and then wouldn't restart. Long story short, the reason the coolant hose blew off was because the head lifted and pressurized the cooling system, and the reason it wouldn't restart it because each cylinder is now a tiny little swimming pool.

After I get it towed home and tear it down, I find 3 studs that were backed out pretty good, one of them took 7 turns by hand before it tightened up! So the idiot that studded the motor before I bought it apparently is a failure at life. He was hitting 27psi on the 18G and said it was pulling like crazy, oh well...

Bought my '94 with 49k miles on it, and at 50k I took it into a local shop to have the timing belt/water pump done. Got it back a couple days later, drove it about 10 miles before the new belt skipped a couple teeth and bent 9 valves! Had it towed back there and they had it for another month before the head was refinished and all the internals replaced. Finally picked it up, and didn't get 1/2 mile before the ECU leaked all over itself and died again. Towed it back again, dropped a pretty penny on another ECU, and finally got it home. This was waaay before I knew much about DSM's so I didn't do any of the work by myself. I've learned much since then, haha.

ok lets see, i bought my 98 talon tsi knowing it had a blown turbo, bought a 18g and installed it. Took it out for a drive, on the way home threw a rod. Tore the engine down and figured out from the looks of the main bearings that the previous owned wasn't bright enough to realize that the blue smoke coming from the exhaust meant he was burning all the oil outta the engine, the bearings had grooves in them as wide as a penny is thick. Rebuilt the engine and head. Drove it for approximately 5k miles. I dont run a timing belt cover and on the interstate with cruise set for 70, apparrently a rock kicked up and got between the t.belt and the crank sprocket, tearing the t.belt. Time for another head rebuild. drove another 6k miles, one of the cords that make the grooves in the water pump belt tore and dropped down and got wrapped around the crank sprocket causing the t.belt to jump. Another head rebuild. Alternator went out and stupid me pulled positive batt. terminal to test it, causing a voltage spike that either fried the ecu or somthing that i cant find causing a no start issue. BUT FOR SOME REASON I STILL LOVE THE DAMN CAR!!! Come to realize that owning a DSM is a love hate relationship!!

My dad had it since it was new but it had been sitting for a long time because the computer went bad. I bought it from him replaced the computer and all was good drove home changed fluids, filters, etc. next day driving to get insurance and it starts sputtering like a VW bug! One coil went bad. ordered and replaced both of them just in case. Love the car for 6 months then, crankwalk!! doing a full engine build now.

I bought my car. On the way home the drivers rear caliper seized, the heat warped the rotor so I had to buy a new set of calipers and rotors. A month later my capacitor shorts out and blows my altenator. Now the p/s belt is squeaking time to take it off

i bought mine and the ECU went out 5 minutes later stranded on an interstate at 70 mph. LOL anyway there is nothing wrong with an automatic. people act like auto is terrible but hear this. when you have a GSX it doesnt matter its still badass!! and also when your a person who uses the car as a daily driver and a modified beast machine the auto is perfect. turn the overdrive off if you wanna go fast dumbasses!
