One week after I bought my 93 tsi It snowed, all my friends and I went to a local parking lot and set up a drift coarse. Tons of fun, it was my first AWD car. After about 30 minutes we decide to go back to my house and get the video camera to make a short film. Ok, as im turning away I had the wheels all the way turned left and gave it lots of gas to turn the car sideways and drive out the exit, that was my plan anyhow. hit the curb with the wheels spinning probably around 25 mph or so and ripped the wheel off the car, it was only hanging on by the steering arm and lcr! FUN. Needless to say we never made that film

Shattered the Diff at the track while shifting into 2nd. Had to reverse it off the track and onto the trailer.

i dont think there is a part on my car that hasnt been replaced or repaired! I have a love/hate relationship with it though.
 
well when i bought my car the timing belt had never been changed, 110K miles
fy first thing to do was get it changed and the water pump and all that goes with that belt, the car never really drove right on the way home from the lot, so i took it to the local shop and had them look at it, somewhere along the line, some one had jumped the timing and bent a few valves, so i bought my talon and couldnt drive it for 2 weeks while the whole top end of the motor was rebuilt, and all new valves were put it
 
Here, I'll make a list:

1. Starter went bad in 20 degree weather....I thought I lost my finders that day.

2. Broke differential on the starting line @ Englishtown. (very embarassing). BTW, I live in NY, so that was a long tow back home...$$$

3. Broke differential AGAIN after my main seal leaked all my trans fluid out.

4. There was one time when i had NO BOOST...does this count? It was the scariest 5 minutes off my life. :D

ok lets see...

week after buying my car alt belt goes flying off in my driveway..bad restraining bolt.

some how my ps/ac belt manged to get fliped round backwards (grooves out), yeah that was kinda new one on me.

power steering pump went to hell...got stuck driveing a kia for 2 days (shudders)

and as of right now..the dealership used some DOT3 ps fluid and didnt fill the resvior.

so i dont know if i have to flush the system or not or just add some dexcron 2 or 3 stuff.

other then that...love my car..wouldnt trade it for anything :)
 
I just bought my car and was driving behind the flatbed that was driving it to my house. The chains holding my car down on the flatbed broke and when the dude hit the brakes, the car slides foward into the back of the tow trucks cab. The guy panics and hits the gas. So now the car SLIDES back! Almost off the flatbed and onto the road, and IM right behind the flatbed! Luckily the front chains were still intact and kept the car from completely falling off the back. the rear left wheel came off the edge but the luckily the other 3 wheels kept the car up. SCARY.
 
2 days after picking up my Talon (my birthday no less), and I'm sideswiped by a dirty 90's T-Bird containing 3 fellows of questionable hygeine.

He gunned out of a parallel parking spot juuust as I was driving along past him, and the other cars parked in line there. Took out the fender, smic, right wheel, it was just super.

It also wasn't his car (of course). They had just been shopping at the mall, so we took all the cash they had on them. Then we took their licenses and stayed with one of them outside while the others went in to take back all their fly gear they just gotsted and took all that money, too...

Best I could come up with, like all things DSM, it was kinda complicated.
 
when i first got my gsx. i was told it had a bad turbo and bad starter and that was it. so i replaced both, and it wouldnt start. so damn me. i look under the dash and the person who had it before me had taken out his system and cut all the wires instead of jsut what he needed to. including teh clutch sensor. so i replaced all, and then my starter solenoid was out. so i replaced that. and then i needed all new fluids, hadnt been cranked in 2 years. so we push started it, and it turned over but it wouldnt start. either the gas was congealed or its just not getting to the motor. so we did all that. and then we get it done, and i take it out, and i find out that it has a fwd tranny in it. not awd anymore, b/c the people before couldnt afford a new one when the awd went out. so im in the process of replacing the awd tranny and transfer case. that is the story of my dsm.
 
i bought my car from a corner dealer..the same day not even 350kms later ..i poped the piston right out the side of the block after 3 months of shipping a motor here and taking my time to ensure everyhitng was done right ..i'm driving it home from the shop and the transfer case go's...3 more months pass with battling with warranty..i get the transfer case in there everything runs..good i take it to a shop just to go over everything to find out....i now have to fix a control arm...and that its not safe to drive....

Well where do i start....
First month i have mine...clutch goes out...get it replaced with a stage1 clutchmaster disk..that goes out 2 months later get it replaced with a stage 3 clutchmaster disk (come to find out that it was faulty instal BOTH times) had another place look at it, they replace the master and slave...but forgot to adjust the clutch rod (going into the master) ...which ones that pressure builds up if you slam your foot down to "force" that clutch pedal in you WILL break lots of stuff...all this was fixed.
NEXT im driving along (about 1.5yrs owned car) and the BOV makes this crazy noise and i get no boost! the damn plastic BOV cap "Blew Off" ironic?
not to long after that my balance shaft belt breaks...well i had no clue other than i was replacing alternator belts every other week...fixed again.

NEXT my clutch starts losing pressure...im thinking "NOT AGAIN" come to find out while stranded an hour an a half away...there is a pin sized hole in my clutch line...
NOW the fun stuff...
FIRST my turbo seals go bad...car starts smoking...t25 fries itself...so i replace it with a big 16g....ONE WEEK LATER my engine spins a rod bearing and i crack the head....
6 mons later after a few problems with the rebuild the car is up and running again and i HOPE to keep it that way...h@ll im scared to even race the beast now!!!

Update to my post of 2 years ago...

nov04- my wife and i blew both our motors within 2 weeks...hers put a rod though the block(600miles from home!!!) and mine spun another bearing (40k miles on rebuild). These were both our daily drivers.

feb05- We got hers rebuilt first and 800miles later find out we have crankwalk.
 
well i bought mine with problems LOL but i watched my friends burn to the ground, dsm's make a pretty good bonfire when your cold on the side of the highway LOL
 
well two nights ago my 12 sec. dsm was sitting on the side of the road and some russian girl ran into it at 1 in the morning. The best part is, is that its only gonna cost me $40 to fix and the insurance company is writing me a check for a little over 4k :thumb: lets just say im not complaining except for the fact that i have been with out my DD for two days
 
got ripped when i bought a 1g had a 4g63 head with a non turbo block other problems came up..Had to sell the car has a shell.
 
Less than 2 months after owning the car (got it in October), the tensioner let go and jumped timing quite a bit. Bent all Intake Valves, guides, and after paying someone to fix it and replace...

-Valves
-Valve Guides
-Head machine work
-Entire tensioning system for all tensioners
-2 belts
-Head Gasket and appropriate gaskets throughout head
-Labor

Cost me $1850. Sure, I could have done the job myself, but it was worth it to have someone fix it right the first time...

I get depressed when I think of the mods I could have done for the $2k that went into the repairs....
 
1st day of owning the car clutch completely goes out, needed a new fly wheel too. cost 1100

2 weeks later i spin a rod bearing, but i did win my race haha
now the car has been sitting in my garage on jack stands for about a month waiting for money and a stupid service manual
 
The first day i got my talon it was about -30 outside , 1 in the morning and i was coming home. about a block from my house i tried to do a slow drift around a right hand 90 degree corner. which turned out to be a bad idea, cause i ended up sliding sideways into the curb at about 15 kmh and knocked off the front drivers wheel. like i said, it was a stupid idea. anyway luckily it only cost me $600 CAD - the only part that broke was the spindle, it didnt even change the alignment.
 
Just gotten my car back from getting the headgasket replaced, and was on my way home to install the gauges I just bought. When the car just stops dead in its tracks, and the bus behind me literaly is touching my rear bumper. Cops show up and I cant get it to move, so the cop (woman, no offense) jumps in and tries for like 2 minutes. You guys smell that? own3d by the PD and the T case:dsm:
 
Bought my Talon TSi AWD on Jan 6th....Crankwalked on Jan. 8th, And was going to pick it up today and I called the shop and the alternator went out. So about 2,000$ later im picking it up thursday...

I wouldent trade it for the world. Unless the world was a perfectly working DSM.
 
when this is the 5th tranny, 7th alternator, and 6th starter that i've gone through in the past year!!!!

WARNING, THIS ARTICLE IS LONG, BUT IT EXPLAINS MY 97 Eclipse GS-T, And my love for DSM. Any DSMer deserves their word in this wonderful community. Enjoy the story

Ever since I was 13, I wanted an Eclipse. I didnt care what model it was, I wanted it. When I was 15, I bought a Greddy Type S BOV, Greddy Profec B boost controller, a Walbro 255 Fuel pump, boost guage, FP guage, and a couple others, and a 3 inch downpipe.... without even having the car. When I turned 16, my dad went half with me on a 97 Eclipse GS-T... my first DSM...Cost me 8500 from SATAN. It came with a nice big ole KN filter... thankyou previous owner. I walked around with a 2 foot hard-on for a week when I bought it. I literately slept in it. I only installed the Greddy BOV and I wanted to enjoy the summer with it stock so I can get the feel of driving it. Well... 4 months after that, my damn clutch burnt out. I was so poor from the insurance that I needed a quick job. I took it to some guy my mom new. This was 2 1/2 years ago. I bought a ACT 2100 series clutch kit and had that installed. It took 2 weeks for the guy to do it. The typical "i had other shit to do.. blah blah blah". Well I finally got it at 1 am in the morning, he showed me how bad it was. As a joke he shoved all the hair and fiber from the housing and put it in a bag and gave me my first clutch burn. When I drove it... I stalled about 4 times... it came up pretty quick... the great orgasmic feeling of a street clutch. When I drove home... there was a suspension knock that was CRAZY. Well I called him up and he said it was a front tranny mount. I went to SATAN and ordered one and I put it in myself. It still made the noise and then he said my control arms were pretty bad. I replaced those, cost me a SHIT load of money for the fact I went again to SATAN for them. Well.. still made the same shit ass knocking noise... This is where the rest of my DSM days (2 more years of heartache) would start

I took the car to Meineke to install the downpipe. He looked under the engine and their was OIL EVERYWHERE!!! he said it was sooo bad that it would be impossible to find the source. At the same time, he told me that i'm ####ED. He took me under and shook my entire engine like it was nothing. And that new Tranny mount I replaced? Yeah... Crushed into 2 pieces. He looked in the rear and the Rear mount cracked the Tranny casing. I was told I needed a new tranny. So i parked my car and picked up 2 more jobs, now 3. I seriously worked everyday of my life trying to get my wife back on the road. Well I worked enough the first week to get a lawyer and bring the ####er that installed my clutch into court. Well i did and apprently, the guy is fresh off the boat poor and collects from the government. He wasnt even a licensed mechanic... he borrow his bro's shop just to make a couple of bux off of me. I was left in the Dust. So i took it to a tranny shop... where my life began to get worse.

Seeing now that the tranny was out... I was like ### it, go all out. I bought a Fidanza Flywheel, a case of BG snychro shift, new cables, Fidanza short shifter, Symbroski shifter kit, the cable stiffners, NKG plug wires, NGK 7's plugs, Greddy Timing belt... I mean the works. The not so good new was that I needed a new transfer case... bought from SATAN. Also, every single mount in my car was gone. SATAN calls again. So this job, I did the tranny fix and installed all the parts. The tranny fix with the labor of my parts was 1500. My parts were close to 1000. I told the guy to do an oil change, seal up any oil leak he can possibly see and drop in some magic... Mobile 1 Synthetic. Well.... I got the car back and holy mother of god... It was sooo quick. I didnt beeat on it... just quick turbo reponse and the power gave me goose bumps. I went on the highway to go home and the goddamn Tranny started leaking my expensive BG synch fluid... then my Speedometer stopped working. I brought it back. I had to go to SATAN again for the Speedometer sensor (100 bux) and have the leak fixed. The leak got fixed and I drove home to find my speedometer broken again and this time.. with a nasty oil leak. Well I went to work one day and my oil pressure gauge went down and my light went on. I pulled over and someone behind me pulled over too. I look under the car and there is all my oil... it poored out of the oil filter... actually most of it was on the car behind me... :tease: that was the only thing funny about the situation. Again, brought it back and everything got fixed. Cost me 140 dollars for a tow back to the tranny place. They said the oil housing gasket blew. So they fixed it for me that day and I went home. Next morning I went to Boston and the ####ing oil dropped again... the tow home cost me 219 dollars, I tried having the tranny guys pay for tow but they wouldnt. They fixed it again for me. Well... I then later got a Networking Job in the IT field (im still 17) and went for my first day at work. The ####ing oil dropped AGAIN... in boston area. Cost me 175 for tow. He then said i had a crazy oil pressure and the dipstick was popped out. He put a OEM oil filter on and he said it went down. I then started going on the forums here and narrowed it down to a ####ing 2 dollar PCV valve.. I started getting into the forums and learning sooo much about our cars.

So far, at this point, I'm 17, 3 jobs, now I have a damn rich snobby g/f slut, and for the first time, my car was running fine. It only ran perfect for 4 months out of the year I had it. So now I'm tied down with this girl so I start installing my boost controller, bored out my T-weanie 25, and put in a Apexi Turbo Timer. I drove it normally and then my front brakes locked up. Went to Meineke and they quoted me 550 for OEM fronts. I told them not too and that I would go with a brembo set for that price. Well I drove him with metal shavings Everywhere on my rims. My dad was sick of my misery so he paid to get my brakes done without me knowing while I was hanging in NH with family for a while. Well, he paid the 550 for the OEM... idiot but hey, i'm not complaining. It drove fine now for 2 weeks then my ####ing turbo went. And in front of the worst place.... SATAN, Mitsubishi of Nashua NH... I swear it was a ####ing sign that I needed another car. The car at this point has 84 k on it, bought it with 78K so I was expecting the turbo to go for sometime. I took it to the track a couple nites before and pulled a low 13.2 at 15-16 PSI. I said to myself.. get a Crazy turbo and you'll be happy. So I literatly pushed the car into SATAN's living room and they tried to sell me an OEM t-25 for 1200 dollars... I ####ING LAUGHED IN THEIR FACE... i was like yea... and my car is brand new. They said they will only install mitsubishi parts and they will only waranty their labor on mitsu parts. So... I ordered a Killer T-28 and told them it was just a regular T-25. hahah dumbasses dont even know their own cars. Well, they broke my flex section of the downpipe installing the turbo and they wouldnt replace it. So i got a new flex and took it to Meinke.

So my car is in ok shape. It could be better. Now.. its spring.. its raining like crazy. I'm about 18, senior year.. i have the nastiest car at school... Well... I was on a freeway and some ####er cut me of and I hit a guard rail doing 65. It didnt do too much damage, but it was enough. My driver side had huge push in dents, my rear pump had a huge hole and some scuffs... could of been worse. I thought I lost here... I cried... Well, I parked it and tried going through the insurance company... they wouldnt cover it. I pay 300 a month for full coverage and the asshole's clamed I was racing. They had no proof whats so ever... it was word of mouth from some anti'racer mom in a soccer van that I was racing someone and the other guy took off. Well the accident pushed in a air vent in my hatch and i had gallons and gallons of water. I banged out all of the dents and my dad helped me bondo everything.(my dad did autobody for 8 years before his Computer programming career)

I finished my senior year and the girl I knew for 2 years, dated for one, cheated on me and made some ### lies.. you know.. the typical g/f bullshit. I went depressed. So i worked 3 jobs again all summer to chear me up to drop more money. I ended up installing my walrbo 255, bought a Aeromitve FPR, Greddy 24R FMIC, NX IC cooler, EVO III housing, Turbo manifold... :)shhh: SSautochrome... I've had good luck with it... I love it) Apexi S-AFC, Data logger, Apexi n1 catback system, Polished Valve cover (Tranny guys cracked mine while they were changing my valve cover gasket), Dejon tool intercooler pipes, and a 1G throttle body. I then ported out my Killer T-28, gasket matched it to Slowboy's 7cm gasket (they claim last longer than the dsm... it just snapped my studs from warping) ported my o2 housing, and did the best I could with the manifold. Then one day......

One day, August 21st, me and my friends made plans to install my parts for the weekend... Although I was depressed with past realationship.. i was happy. We cracked open some beers, made a couple of drinks, and toasted to our DSMs... then last to our health. This was 4 pm in late evening. Later that nite, we went to Hampton beach with my car. Before we left, I installed a underglow kit to get the attention. it was awsome... my car was running beautifully and i was happy as hell. On the way home, I got pulled over for a "manfunctioning license plate lite" at 1 AM, which really didnt... I was alone in my car this time, my friends stayed at the beach and I was supposed to meet some girl at my job at Express... I worked in the mens store. The cop asks me why he's pulling me over and I said I have no clue. (i have been pulled over about literatley 40 times for nothing but warnings of the ordinaty teenager and his import, so at this point, i hvae no patience with ponigs). He asked me again and I replied "Because I'm a teenager in a high profile performance import and there is a stupid excuse to be brought up"... he yanked me out of my car and pointed to my lisence plate, and i was like "what am I looking for", he said well... when I pulled you over, your plate lite was out.. and i was like well... you must have been seeing things. He then smelled something on me and asked me if I had anything to drink. I told him nothing. Then he said "no no I smell it on you" I was like, ok, I know I was an ass to you, but I had NOTHING, I don't believe in drinking in driving. Its 1 AM i just want to get home. He asked me to do a breathalizer and I refused. He claimed if i refused again I could loose my lisence for 6 months, so I was like w.e I'll take it. Now in my head, i'm shitting all over the place. Its not that bad, because I finished drinking at 4 pm and its 1 am in the morning. Well I took and and blew 1 point over. He then started laughing and was like tell me the truth now... I told him I had exactly 1 beast and a cup of Malabu slushy that bursted all over me at 4 PM. Well... I got canned for a whole morning and my car got towed. I got out the next morning to go to court and THEY TOOK MY ####ING LICENSE AWAY FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. its been 4 months now... i have 14 months left.

My car ran for only about a year out of the almost 3 years I've had it. I bought it with 78K and it has 90K on it now. shows you how much i drove it for. Here is what is wrong now... my car runs sooo super rich Aafter the port jobs and Apexi n1 install...that it burns my eyes... i think an o2 sensor is went out after I did the install. My TPS is gone, my car has idle surges... when it feels like it wants to die, the pcv flutters really really fast, I think timing is off. I still have an oil leak ( i narrowed it down to oil pan.. has a dent on it). My lifters click like crazy. My clutch cylinder has a leak in the cockput... it has a very very minor leak where the clutch pedal meets the cylinder. I have boost leaks in a couple of places and i never even done a compression test. I'm afraid of doing it.

Where am i now?

I'm 18 and I'm in college at UMASS lowell for Computer engineering and going for a minor in mechanical. I get dropped off by my dad, and picked up by my mom. Everymorning i spend 1 hour on this forums before I start my day and I spend the rest of my nite on it. My car is sitting in a corner of my driveway with a tarp soaking up the winter. I did manage to install everything else. I'm on my early stages of tunning and building a 6-bolt... I won't give into Crank walkHere is my last words

"I WOULD NEVER IN THIS WORLD EVER SETTLE FOR ANOTHER CAR BUT MY DSM. I LOVE HER AND THE ONLY WAY ITS GOING TO SLIP MY FINGERS, IS WHEN I SLIP THAT SHIFTER INTO GEAR AND TAKE IT OFF A CLIFF WITH ME."

13 months left to go and I'll be back on the road... haha thats legally.. no one said nothing about taking her out for a joy ride once in a blue moon.

My 2nd Dsm. was a AWD TSI w/ a thrown rod bearing, and a stuck rod in my piston. Ript it apart, Re-built it and had it running in 30 days... Think it was the first weekend I took her out raceing, and I blew up the turbo. Wow was that some action, the car launched like 3-5 cars in front of this honda, then droped power and went to a slow roll.
 
well i bought my gsx off of ebay, and when i got there i looked the car over, and he had the wastegate acuator unplugged WTF and was driving it around like that , so i plugged it back in , and the bov vaccum line was unpluged so it was getting compressor surge :toobad: and i think the turbo is dead in it, and it seemed to run on 3 cylinders (i flew there) and i drove it from colorado to florida (holy shit:rolleyes: ) it was 1937 miles and i stopped in mississippi to change plugs, wires, oil cap, and pcv valve ( oil was blowing everywhere, and anti freeze also , anyways finally got home 3 days later to find that i had a dead cylinder (150 140 150 28) and the guy thought it was a jdm engine because it had a red valve cover , which i dont know if it is or not, i will find out when i do my engine swap., so yea thats my story
 
Well I got in my 95 GSX this morning to drive to work- press the clutch and it sticks to the floor. Had to put my toe under the pedal to pull it back up. Didn't even bother starting it. Had to drive my 99 Z28 which needs brakes very very badly. Do I throw the money at the Z or GSX???? hmmm.

Hope it's just a clutch master/slave cylinder . . .
