not sure if anyone will help out on this or not, but my 95 auto tsi will hardly move. Reverse is perfect but throw it in drive and it engages down low but just enough for it to barely move till the revs climb too high. As the revs come back down, you can really feel it engage which is wierd. I dont really think the whole tranny went because it shifted fine prior to this happening. What could it possibly be? Not enough tranny fluid, bad tcu, bad cv joints, bad convertor, or even a blown tranny? What does it sound like? I know right away it sounds like the tranny which is most people's first reaction but I thought the tranny had all kinds of problems or slipping before it has went out. At least mine usually have that Ive had to replace on different cars. Let me know guys! Thanks.

well there could be many things wrong, burnt/worn clutches, busted seal, valv bodie gasket blown, not enough fluid or broken parts. any of these things could cause that problem, but since you have reverse we can eliminate one of those as the problem: low fluid. I would still check your fluid level in park or neutral and smell it to see if it is burnt. If you are inclined enough Id recomend checking the pan for clutch material or chunks of metal, if that isnt found and the fluid level and condition are fine then whats left is seal and gasket problems.

ok well I was actually able to drive the car after this happened. It's almost like the car has no first gear. From a stop, it didnt seem to want to go when in the D position. I dropped it in L and it went but took some coaxing. Leaving it in L, it acted more like drive and didnt raise the rpms too much even at 30mph where normally Low would be maxed out. Now after I get it going it seems to respond ok in 2nd and D. I couldnt tell a whole lot though because of the snow we have right now. Driving at say 40mph or so in L and then shifting into 2nd, you could really tell it engaged and kinda hard.

Now I also did a tcu check according to this webpage. http://www.plymouthlaser.com/tcucodes.htm That didnt bring up a thing so I guess the test was saying the tcu was ok and it could see nothing wrong. I guess what Im leaning toward now is the something to do with 1st gear is gone/burnt.

I also noticed when driving that the oil pressure gauge does not move at all. Maybe this is due to the curb I ran over drifting around in the snow 3 days ago? My dad said one of the sensors for the oil pressure is more underneath the car he thinks causing it to come loose. I dunno...hopefully someone that knows what they are doing can chime in here.
