I was on my way home from school the other day, and I was stuck behind a slow female driver :ohdamn: I went to pass her, put my foot to the floor (was in 4th gear) and something crazy happened. It was like my trans was in neutral. Free revved. The car didnt move at all. I let the rpms settle back down and then the tranny kicked back into gear.

This is in my bone stock 92 tsi awd.

Is this a torque converter problem? Maybe electrical like TCU?

This has only happened one time.

Anyone have any ideas?

Probably end clutches. They are fairly cheap at around $100 and can be changed in about 20 minutes without even draining the fluid from the transmission. That said, just because you don't have to drain the fluid it would still be a good idea to do a flush and filter at the same time since there will be some amount of material that has come off of your old worn out end clutches and it is almost certainly a good time to take care of it anyway.
