what year is my engine?

I recently bought a 97 gst that has a 6 bolt swap done but the guy i bought it off of did not know what year the engine was is there any way i can find and or figure out what year this engine is so when i buy parts i know what specific year to look for or does it just not matter

It really doesnt matter. There are small differences. But 6 bolts are early 90's

A true 6-bolt is from an 89-92.5. All those years are the same for parts I am pretty sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that part. I do know a 90 engine came with an external oil cooler. So the filter housing would be different.

A 1990 would look very different from any other year. All of the plugs are different for most of the sensors, and the throttle body looks totally different. The CAS and TPS have pig-tails on them instead of just having the male plug molded into the housing. The 1990 TB has vacuum taps on the side of it instead of on top of it. It's probably a 91-92.

perfect once my camera works ill post pics of it ### i do have some questions about the throttle body there is only one hose hooked up all the other nipples are capped off and this being my first dsm it doesnt look normal to me. but then again not much of anything looks normal under my hood since there are wires and hoses hanging everywhere and i have no clue what goes to where
