I had an issue with my recent build to where the crank shaft was f^&ked, so I started to tear apart the motor again to replace the crank and I noticed I have a hole in the side of my engine block. I have no idea yet what the condition of the rods and pistons are, they are brand new and have less than 10 miles on them. Well enough with the back story i'm not sure if I should buy a new crank and a new block or buy a short block, what would you guys do i'm trying to keep the cost down, a new crank is 250 with bearings and so far I have yet to find a block (which will need to be bored to .02 cause that's the pistons I have) and a short block from dsm grave yard, stock build bored .04 over is I think 1250 and a build short block is over 2k. Im worried about that .04 bore, Im not saying they don;t know what their doing just I've herd a lot of people say don't go above .03.

...what are you trying to do, just have a running car, or build it for more power?

If you just want a running car, or only plan on just bolting on a few things, go to a junk yard and buy an entire motor, save yourself the $$ of rebuilding what you already have.

I want reliable and at the moment a short block unless it has a stroker crank is not going to help with power, and I don't plan to turbo until I have no issues inside and out, so after the motor then the suspension then finish the paint and stereo then turbo.
As well the head I have is build ported polished new valves and street obx cams 30 degree valve shave, 3 angle valve job and so on.

If there is a hole in the block i would junk it. What caused the hole? Also stay away from those pre ground crank kits with bearings. I've found that 90 percent of the time those are machined wrong or out of spec.

If your aiming to boost the engine why not build it for it now? You say your not going to turbo until you have no issues, well boosting a junkyard engine will give you issues. Boosting any unhealthy engine will give you issues.

Buy a new block and build it right the first time. It'll save you money and trouble in the future.

Dude you are right outside of columbia, go to pull a part and pick up a block for $100. There is a 420a laying on the ground already. I was just there the other day
