What would you consider a mild rebuild?

So my car jumped timing the other day. I'm extremely pissed. The BS belt snapped and skipped under the timing belt, so it jumped. The timing belt didn't break but I don't know to what extent the damage is (bent valves or close to it).

My car must have been abused by the previous owner. I've had nothing but trouble even when I did as much maintenance as I could. I always used synthetic oils, checked my fluids, spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and was just about to put in a new timing belt.

So, i'm going to bite the bullet and do a mild rebuild on my engine. I don't have the money for performance parts just yet, but enough to get the engine back to going right. It is my DD which is why I can't let it sit until I have enough to do the fun performance stuff like pistons, rods, etc...

So in my head, a mild rebuild for me will probably be:

Cometic head gasket, full bottom end and top end gasket set, balance shaft eliminator kit (#### the BS), valves (if i bent some, ill get performance ones), valve stems, seals, maybe 3s lifters, water pump, timing belt.

Now my question is, what am I missing to do a mild rebuild? Am I on the right track or is there something more? I just want a "clean slate" with my engine. I was thinking even sending it to be hot tanked. What am i missing? What else should I do? Btw, it's a 7bolt with 100,000 miles.

+1^ they are building my head i sent it out yesturday !! if you imeediatly turned the engine off after that happened then you just have bent valves similar thing happend to me tear it apart and see if you have bent halves then get dsm graveyard to build it for you its inexpensive and im getting good parts:D BTW this is also my dd ..only car i have right now

To use a cometic head gasket you will need to have the block's deck resurfaced, which involves pulling the entire engine, not just the head, in order to get a good seal. I would just go with the OEM composite gasket with ARP studs.

Yeah I shut it off within 1-3 seconds after I heard the clunk. I immediately pressed the clutch and shut it off. But yeah i've heard nothing but good things about DSMGraveyard. It's amazing because they do it all, honing, decking, boring, hot tanking, cleaning, etc... for only $250. So I can't just put in new valves?

Ah okay, well I learned something new :)

The OEM composite is good for about 25-28 psi with ARP head studs and has to be used unless both the block and head are resurfaced like 9!Clipse said.

I would say to get an OEM oil pump as well while you are doing all of this and check out your crank pully too. Wouldn't be a bad time to get some better springs and throw in some cams. Delta Camshaft has very affordable cams.
