i have stock exhaust and i was wondering what would happen if i put an aftermarket 3 inch downpipe on and left the stock muffler (i also have a header/ tubular manifold)

is it possible?
what will happen to performance?
will the turbo spool faster?
what will happen to the sound?

it may have a deeper sound, but not sure if performance would be noticable, cause it would be freeflowing then boom hits a wall to the rest of the exhaust, I say just run open 3" DP, Its amazing!

ok thanks... the reason im asking is because my stock exhaust and cat are getting pretty wore out... its cheaper to buy the dowwnpipe than to have someone bend me one and install a new cat... im sure open pipe is pretty sweet but im trying to keep quiet so i can stay under the raadar with my parents, the neighbors, and the police

Then open downpipe isnt for you. Its really loud and annoying after a while. Why dont you just replace the whole exhaust? Im running Punishment racing down pipe and ebay cat back which set me back only 350-400 bucks. And it sounds and performs great.

im still trying to pay off the car and its still pretty loud with the open straight through mufflers... i was thinking about replacing the downpipe and later doing the rest of the exhaust but will the downpipe just bolt right up to the stock exhaust?

You will need the adapter that goes from 3" to the 2.5"(or stock size) I dont even know what the stock is. I think Megan Racing sent me that adapter along with the 3" to 3" that has the hangars on it. I used the 3" to 3" to attached their DP to exhaust.

What is stock exhaust size?

you can try running a 3" down pipe with a 3" piping all the way to the stock exhaust. ill sound nice, but not that loud

When I got my Pacesetter 3" DP it came with a cat adapter that is a 3" piece to fit to the DP then it goes to stock cat size. I am not using it so OP if your interested PM me and we can discuss it further. I am sure if you have plans for near future exhaust upgrades, a 3" DP isnt going to hurt you right now, just wont benifit you the most either, but if used with stock exhaust, I am sure it will be a little more grumble and be fine in there till you get money for a full exhaust.
