Hi,

I purchased a 1998 GS-T, and it already has modifications done to it. I am getting 16psi of boost, so it is obvious that it does not have the stock turbo. I'm just wondering if there is a way to find out what type of turbo it is (16G, etc?). Are there any distinguishing characteristics that I could see on it? Should I post pictures?

The other mods are:
3" turbo-back exhaust
Greddy BOV
K & N Intake pipe and filter

Pictures would help but there are a few basic things you can do to help identify it. Look on the passenger side of the turbo (compressor inlet) and you should see casting numbers. Let us know what those are and the serial numbers as well and we should be able to help you identify what's in there.

The casting numbers read: "DUCM 21E"

I'm not sure what serial numbers you are referring to? Also, I tried taking some pics, but I dn't think that they'll help the process. Maybe if these casting numbers don't help, I'll post the pics.

Go ahead and post the pics as well.

You can get 16psi on the T-25 since that's what I see on a daily basis.
 
look at your tach and boost gauge, if it is still showing 16psi past the 6k rpm range then you have an upgraded turbo :thumb:

Also, in reply to Noz, the boost fades to about 13-14psi after 6K RPM.

It doesnt look like the T-25, but it sounds like one. Losing boost at around 5500. After I installed my Greddy BOV, my boost went up from abount 9psi to about 15-16psi, just from putting on a blow off valve. So it sounds to me that you have a T-25, but I could also be wrong
 
It's not a T25. At least it doesn't look like one. The T25 has the wastegate actuator on the upper side of the compresor housing. The one posted above has it under. You can also notice how the 90 degree elbow has been welded. The T25 compressor housing and elbow are a single unit. Here's a picture of a T25.

Sure don't look like a t-25 housing to me either.

Look at the waste-gate actuator - regular DSM ones have just a rob at the end of his its got a little welded on hook - looks all chubby.... Reminds me of a Saab turbo also.
 
True, it doesn't look like a T-25...
but it sure flows like one :sneaky:
 
The turbo is a hahn racecraft 16g, look at the adapter plate. that turbo uses a t3 flange, and the plate to adapt to the factory manifold, and check for boost leaks those are a fairly good turbo.
