I'm trying to see what to tune my car with after its done being built. I recieved an Ostrich Emanulator and a eprom socketed ECU with the parts car I bought. I'm running an AGP 50 trim (dsm flanged), Crower 272's, E85, 1200cc, Walbro 400, FL FPR, Zeitronix wideband, crushed 1G BOV recir'd, looking to run 20-25lbs of boost. I have seen great success in other cars with tuned ECU's with MAF's. I want good driveability, something i couldn't get tuned in on my MK3 Supra with a V1 AEM EMS. I don't want to retune and have to constantly log and all that crap. I have no idea about tuning and no care to. I want to unstall something to tune it with and send it to a reputable tuner.

Now my question is do I need a MAF based tune to keep my car consistant and reliable. I'm not worried about making the best power out of my car but I want it to be safe and reliable. Can I do that with the Ostrich, what does the thing even do? Can I get my ECU tuned from a shop with what I have?

Open to suggestions and answers.

Jeff

Link V3.
You don't need a MAF to get a reliable tune. It makes things relatively easy since you won't have speed density maps to dial in but any GOOD tuner can get your car dialed in.

Personally I would run it in SD for my own setup. I have run 2g and 3g maf setups up into the 500whp area with no problems as well. Mostly depends on who you have tune it as to how well it will run on either setup.

+3 for that since you already have the cable and things needed to run it. Plus my1gdsm's work with link and other platforms is top notch from what I've seen on here! I made my recommendation because he said he doesn't want to mess with anything. But if you get jackal and a tuner that can work with it for ya your all set!

Running a MAF will make it easier, I say go for ECMLINK but you can't go wrong with Jackal either.

I should've added I want 2-step and increased rev limit, on the pictures I see the rom tables only go up to 7k?

EDIT: Emailed Jestr (the guy I want to tune it). Will repost if I need further help. Thanks for the responses.

Link V3 full, has 2 step launch control and rev limit to at least 10 I believe but I am running at 8 and will never see 10. No lift to shift option, 1g,, 2g MAF or SD options etc. See ECMTuning, Inc. for some examples. Lots of variables but very tunable. I use Remote Tuning Services - DSM Classifieds
and he is very honest and open be it good or bad. Very dependable. :thumb:

Stay with the ostrich, you already have it. Ostrich is density only, and you will need a booster socket installed in the ecu to use the emulator if it doesn't have it already. Ostrich can do everything link can for half the price.

Ostrich is not SD only. I have my Ostrich on my 91 GST with the stock maf running just fine. With the ostrich there are big map mods that can raise the rev limit and load limit if running MAF. The SD side of things has been revamped alot on dsmecu.com instead of Load based maps Such as Link, Jackal and Nick Sanders SD code we are using pressure based maps. Learning curve on any tuning device is going to be steep.

Staying MAF would probly be ## best bet. Using a EVO 8 399 Maf will be best. Using the correct maf comp and tuning from there will be best. Use stock 02 in its oem location but install a WB so that you can correctly tune the car. With a good tune you should never have a issue

I am bias towards DSmlink V3, becuase it's been fantastic for me. I've had the car running on the stock MAF, then a GM MAF, and now SD with no issues whatsoever.

Car starts up everytime, gives me no fuss, and easy to work with.
