So I drug a 1g out of a guys field and began stripping it down. As a few of you have probably encountered, this project has taken on a whole life of its own. it was bought thinking the timing belt had snapped and therfore sprung a valve. Timing belt is fine. You can see in the pic that I have bigger problems - all fixable though.

My brother and I have stripped the interior out of the car, the motor has been completely taken down to bare block and is now ready to be machined to whatever specks we choose.

My question is should we go further or is there a market for a good project car like this.

<oh, did I mention that it came with a trunk full of fresh, off of the shelf Mits parts including a brand new, unassembled head? One bonus of buying it off of a Mits Parts Manager.

Or that it has 103K showing and only one name on the title last registered in 1993?

The market for these cars is enoromus, this is one good reason why so many people chose to build DSM's. You cant go wrong with an old 90 import that can blow the doors off some old rich guy in a $50,000 Corvette. :D . It doesnt get much better than that.

My suggestion, is to build the car. I prefer the sleeper look, crappy on the outside, and nothing but motor work on the inside. Some people laugh until they get beat.

From the pictures it looks to be in good condition. I'd fix it up and build the motor. Nice find.

Had the same problem 2 days after owning my car. Timing belt broke on previous owner and he opted to use cheap after market valves. IMO 1g's are a very good platform to build on, just don't use aftermarket crap. (valves) take your time building your motor and get all the info you need from this site to have a fun and fast car.:) :dsm:

If you sold it you'd probably only get a few hundred bucks. You've alread put this much time into it, so...build it!

And yes it does appear that the timing belt "jumped timing", and that is why you have the damaged valves. So you could just do the top end, and replace all the timing compenets and waterpump, and REMOVE the balance shafts.

I would do all the above, plus get the bottom end done since it's already out anyway.
